some tricks to be named

Post by eR-mine » 01 Dec 2004 05:46

i think there is a couple of downtime tricks, that has no their own names, but they should be named, 'cuase they are a downtime components, that can be a part of a bigger tricks.

tell me, if i'm wrong and they has their names, but i havent found any...

the tricks are:

- downtime miraging symp mirage (as voodoo, but voodoo is just a pdx variant of this trick, i think it should have it's own name...)
- downtime miraging flail (i know, it can be called " downtime bs blizzard", but saying smth like "pixie downtime bs blizzard" is weird, i think =) )
- downtime leggy flux, like torque with reverse dex (i think, naming it "flux" is wrong, as most people consider flux to be atomic set osis)

and there is another trick i'd really like to name, 'cause i like it so much... but i don't it'll be a widespread trick, 'cause it's just crazy. i footed it once and, i think, i'll name it, when i'll be able to hit it with any stability... it's downtime miraging symp whirl =) .

the first one is named merlin, the second one isn't named as far as I know, the third one is definitely flux. atomic osis might be Flux to some, but I associate the downtime version with the name more. as for miraging symp whirl, the paradox version of that is called paratoxic, but I don't know about the toe / downtime whirlygig version. I'm pretty sure that's just miraging symp whirl. maybe just call it toxic ;) ?

The deal with flux is that it is in the same catagory as a trick like eggbeater....it doesn't matter whether its crispy or not. You can do an eggbeater downtime or in two seperate parts...and it's still an eggbeater.

Mind you, you don't call stepping ss mirage a barrage do you? Hmmm...

I'm pretty sure that atomic op legover (crispy eggbeater) is called eggplant.

I consider flux to be the downtime version and atomic osis to be "atomic osis"

yeah, and I don't call atomic legover eggbeater, either. ah, another naming discrepancy... I hate it when a set or paradox is implied by a move name when the base move of the name (like miraging symp whirl in pdox miraging symp whirl) doesn't have a name itself. it means more stupid names to remember, and implies that downtime moves preceded by pixie / fairy / spinning etc. all deserve different names. too bad we've already got smear / fear, smoke / fume... gahhhhhhhhhhhhh, too many names!!!!!

me? suggest a solution? not a chance ;) i just like to complain.

so, merlin&flux... things are getting clearer for me =) . as the second trick has no name, i think it should be named.

and my confusion about flux is all about a demo of this trick from flipsider =) .

2matthew: yeah, that's the shit i was talking about =) .

Lynton Stephens has hit a lot of miraging flail moves - he calls them "dlo op toe"

So for example if you hit blurry blurry flail - he'd call that fog bail op toe - etc. The symposium is implied because otherwise the footwork is crazy.

Flux was around before the concept of uptime and downtime, so it's flux either way.

more to the point - flux was around before atomic sets - and feels completely different to an atomic osis - so it was only named as the downtime move.

if I do an atomic osis, I even have to torque/twist my body a lot harder, because I don't have much time.
Do a leggy atomic osis and you'll see the difference

There is a thread about this exact subject in the General Footbag section called 'the naming committee'.
Naturally people don't care about anything so it's sitting in a dust pile.
I proposed names for the only TWO of the series that aren't named which were dt witchdoctor and dt bs blizzard (voodoo is just fine, the other is massacre).
You can see a vid of 'slaughter' in my blog.
dt bs blizzard is yet to be named. I think shaman goes good with voodoo but whatever.

I think Butterfly Symp. Twirl should have a name. Why? Because it's all downtime... and that's just what I feel...
Josh Gayhart ... keeping footbag tuff since 2002.
