Future Trends

Post by max » 10 Dec 2004 01:18

I've been following the very interesting FADS topic ( http://www.modified.ca/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=7595 ) and was wondering what everyone's thoughts on the future trends in footbag will be?

- I'll guess that tricks ending on toe stall will get a lot more used.
- spinning diving
- symple drifters/grifters
- and I've been preparing for the impeding return of the HEEL STALL

thoughts?

I think new shoes will be a trend in the future...If there ever will ever be a shoe made for footbag only. Anyway if so I think alot of players would by it.

i think people are already increasing their push to find alternative footwear. A few years down the road I will create the ideal footbag shoe, give me some time.

These are coming in:
- unusual surfaces
- increased creativity
- any deviation from the norm

I always found it odd that no one has incorporated flips into their games, I see that happening sometime in the future.

I tried to flikflak (same as "halfflip backwards") once so that the ball stays hole time on my toe, resulting the bag to fly far far away. I don´t really think it as trick.. :)

I would like to see a trend towards much more visible footbags. Optimistically, I see some design change incorporating very small LED lights as filler in bags made of extra-light weight (= Translucent) material or even a net/mesh. The over-all effect I hope for is like that of some of the newer videos where the footbag is highlighted so that it is easier to see.

I think that one major problem holding back an explosion in the popularity of freestyle footbag (and maybe even Net) is that the object of our sport (the footbag itself) is pretty un-viewer-friendly (at least from the standpoint of those not already very familiar with what they are seeing). A very small, often dull-or-dark colored (and usually dirty) bean-bag is just hard to follow if you don't already know what to look for. Whats more, the object (as well as the player) usually appear much smaller than life-sized on a television screen.

I think that the advantages of solving this little problem are so great, and so obvious, that this is a trend just waiting to happen. Any takers?

Oh, and I predict a trend of non-stalling tricks. Any kind of tricks that don't involve the simple act of stalling the bag. This would involve a resurgence of flyers, as well as spinning kicks, flapper kicks, and maybe more body-rolls (rolling is not totally dissimilar to stalling, but then again, it's clearly not the same as simply catching the bag on your foot). As evidence I point to the already increasing frequency of knee-bumps in the middle of moves. I want to see even more knee bumps, amongst other variations.

I predict these will become much more popular in the near future:

- TRIALS!!
- flying stalls
- unusual surfaces

...and a few weird tricks & concepts yet to be revealed.

yep, I'm working together with a fire jugglers group and they are doing shows in the dark at our christmas market; I'd like to join the show, but that glowing footbags are almost useless for hard shred

in fact I realized, I don't even look for the bag, I just look for what the legs do and know what is done

Yes! Like more eclipses and strange tricks like flying osis....
You may wonder about the feasibility of a flying osis in a string but my boy graham already uses them, sealing them with butterflies and whirls, he even pixies and faries into them....

I remember (at a just for kicks event i think) Morgan Findlay (doesn't play anymore) trying a front flipping toe stall. Didn't hit it, but if he'd kept playing he would of had it easy.

afaik zoid is an antisymposium crossbody-toe-set or a dirty looking antisymposium atomic set....
but antisymposium implies that it's a set, you can't delay or dex AS

I have felt for a long time that the sport is reaching the end of its technical expansion, though I'm sure I may eat those words one day. Double blender may become an easy move but I doubt anyone will ever hit triaging trifly. With that in mind I think the game will (and should) start to take a turn towards very style and form oriented play (Ales is one of the only form oriented players I can think of, and Jon S. is a well known style oriented player, but most players are very technical-oriented) I have already started to try and put form as my number one priority.

I also sometimes think about more interesting arrangment of moves and tricks, like composing a classical piece of music or an art performance, where technique is used but is not the center of the performance.

To add to the bag visibility topic, what's the stuff they use in hockey to make the puck have a yellow glow on the monitors? That might be implemented in some way.
