Videos from Paris

Post by David Morawski » 02 Aug 2005 07:29

Hello everyone..this is my first post as I am new to modified.ca and the entire footbagging scene. I recently went backpacking through Europe and, while in Paris, I ran into some of the most amazing people I've ever met...and they were footbaggers!

One night I happened upon Thomas S. and Robinson (Don't know if they are known on this board) footbagging under a light at night at the Eiffel Tower, and the next day they introduced me to all their friends AND Vasek..among other great names (Charles Dupuy, Serge, Frank..Remy? I think, and a few others). Not only was I impressed by everyone's mad footbagging skills, but moreso by their generosity, hospitality, and overall friendliness to someone they had just met. Many of them were giving me pointers on the fundamentals, which helped immensely as I am now moving from hacky-sack (Ew.) to freestyle footbag. I am already in the process of making my own footbag (Thanks to this forum, among others)..but only with T-shirts right now as I'm still practicing.

So..to get to the POINT. I have some low res and poor quality movies I filmed of all my new friends (If they let me call them that), plus Vasek, which I filmed on my crappy digital camera. I know there are better videos of all these footbaggers, but I am more than happy to make them available to anyone who would like to see them. The only problem is I have no where to host them...so, with that said...Help me help you.

If no one cares, that's fine, too..because the videos aren't that great after seeing footjam or many of the videos posted here on modified.

In order from left to right: Fletch (Friend from the States), Vasek, and me.

That is an awesome story. I wish something like that would happen to me. I've never been able to meet any footbaggers aside from the ones I got into the sport myself. I suppose Painesville, Ohio really isn't the hotspot for footbagging, eh? Can't wait for the videos.

So do I :P

Man, I can't believe I'm getting positive feedback. I just watched the top ten of the open freestyle finals of Worlds 05..Holy shit. I mean, I know my videos didn't have shit on that, but my videos have got SHIT on that. I guess that just goes to show, once again, how amazing the footbagging scene is.

Awesome to hear from you! I assure you, the pleasure was all mine :D

Haven't met up with any local players yet, no, cause I'm kind of slacking in the footbag department. And, unfortunately, not many of my friends who were into hacky-sack, before I met all you guys in Paris, were too excited about footbagging. It would have been nice to have people on my level to play with, but what can ya do? I guess I have no choice but to look up some locals now....after I sew my own bag and get a little better.

Dude you will get so much better if you find people to play with now. Having people to play with is the key to getting better - without them it will take a lot lot longer.

LA has a great scene with lots of cool people who even post on this board. Look them up at www.footbag.org/clubs or /members - you'll find lots. Especially look for IFPA members, members with clubs or members with phone numbers in their profile - these are the people most likely to be active!

That IS a great story ! You didn't just run into some abnormally nice footbaggers, almost all of them are like that. Of course running into who you did, they are abnormally talented in the ways of freestyle, so you're luck ! Thanks for taken footage of what you did, cheered me up a bit for today.

Yeahhh!!

So nice to see you here Davey!!! and Thomas too for his first post!!

Man, the vids are cool.. We all apreciated a lot the time we spent with you too! I hope you had a good end of trip in Holland (I think)..

You+Fletch=2... Just perfect t o start footbag.. Isn't he motivated???
I would also advice you to buy a quality footbag and ROD LAVERS... As you saw in Paris, it is really important.. It helps a lot.. Lavers makes the game much more easy!!

I'm really happy to see you here man! I hope you'll keep kicking!
See you around there!!

Hey Davey

Also a hearty welcome from my side to the footbag community

Thanks a lot for the vids especially those from vasek..he is actually my favourite shredder and I download everything I can find where he shreds :D

I'm a bit envious that you met him so early in the beginning of your footbag career :D ..It would be so inspiring to meet him just like this and see him hitting sick stuff

greetings Julian

What a trip that was...

Post by funklovesfootbag » 28 Aug 2005 20:42

Holy shit that was too much fun. I wanna say thanks to everyone who was so hospitable to us in Paris and for introducing Dave and I to freestyle footbag... since then we've been playing everyday for at least an hour and I can actually string together tricks now..

Thomas, I'll be pro in no time thanks to your teaching me toe to toe. Thanks!

It's so nice to hear you guys have played non stop since then!
Keep it up, and contact your local players! This will be an even bigger motivation!
I hope we can meet again by next year :)
