Reile's CIC blog

Post by The Actual Sized E » 15 Oct 2005 16:54

I've been putting off getting on the blog trolley for a long time because i know I'm gonna end up neglecting it, but lately I've been getting back into freestyle, and I justy felt like getting back in touch with the whole community. It's trolley time....... :? :D . Anyway, some news:
1. I'm moving back into the city!!!!!!!!!!! I've been living in a suburb of Chicago for the last couple years after spending my childhood and teen years in the city and it's K-I-L-L-I-N-G me. So I talked to Zeke, who's been looking to move to a new place for a while, and BAM, in two days we found an awesome shredpartment close to both of our old neighborhoods so we can still order from all the same resteraunts 8) . Also, Our back yard is right up to a cemetary, like i can literally reach out off the back deck and feel that stale dead air, which is cool i guess, we don't have to worry about alley rats (rodent or human)and as long as the ghosts can't fly up to the third floor, we're golden. And the apt is just 5 min from Tim's house, so it won't take me that long to go over to his house and find out he's sleeping, bang on his bedroom door, he's sleeping, get bored, watch some tv by myself in his living room, knock on his door again, still sleeping, and then go back home. SWEET!!!

2. I actually skooled today! It felt awesome to play again. I found out that I didn't loose much skill after not really playing much for about a year, just a lot of consistancy and shred stamina. But if i stop and think about it, I can hit most of the moves I could hit before. That was relieving. I skooled Tom style too :D :

15OCT2005

10 toe dlo BS (20)
10 blender BS (20)
10 drifter BS (20)
10 ripwalk BS (20)
10 simple swirl BS (20)
10 smog BS (20)

And then I shredded some. The dlos, drifters and blenders were easy, especially the blenders. The ripwalks were frusterating, I used to be able to link 10 in a row and now I feel shakey linking 2. They still went pretty fast, but it sucks to take that big a step back :? . The smogs were a bitchass. At first I was only going to do 5 on each side cause it's a tougher move, and I did that, then later on in the shred I thought it would be cool to say I did 10 so I just hit the next 5 on my strong side like nothing, I think I only dropped once. Shit, now I have to do flipside. I hit the 6th ok but that 7th smog took fo-eva. I was this close (imagine my finger pinching together 2 or 3 atoms) to just quitting and doing 6 flip and 10 strong smogs and then i hit the 7th. 8 and 9 came real easy after that and then 10 a few tries after that. It felt so good to actually acomplish that goal. Tom skooled today too and we each set a goal to try and link 3 consec blenders and hit a flipside whirling swirl. 3 blenders: No dice, Flip Whirling swirl: DICE 8). I really like shredding with Tom lately cause I feel we are pretty close to the same level. Last sunday we had a pretty big CIC session and I was in a circle with Tom most of the session and we both linked blender>blender for the first time and at the end of the session we raced to hit pdx whirling swirl and we both *hit* it but not well enough to seal so the race is still going. At tomorrows session we will both hit it. For sure. DICE!!! 8)

3. I found out there is a Stylee Riley (or some other spelling) in Montana!! Damn!! Stealing my mojo. We better not meet at an event or one of us will implode, that or its going to have to come to footsticuffs  . I'm putting a "the first" after my name to differentiate us, he can be the sequel haha.

Man, sorry I haven't been keeping up with my blog. The last few weeks I've been slowly moving into my new apt, and I don't have any internet access there yet so I don't get too many opportunities to post. But I guess it's not too big a deal since I've only kicked once since my last post. It was a kinda fun, low-key session two sundays ago. I can't remember too much of what was hit then. The only things that I remember hitting of any note were pixie backspining butterfly (which was way ugly, but really fun to hit) and blender>stepping ducking set, but nothing out of it :( . I was actually really proud of the latter combo even though technically it wasn't even a combo. Lately I keep dreaming of hitting spinning osis>food processor>spike hammer, but my chances of hitting it a very slim right now. I'm pretty sure I could hit the spinning osis>food processor part without too much trouble, food>spike hammer is way less likely though. I want it so bad though  .

I can't wait for tomorrow :D :D ! Tim, his gf Alex, myself, and 2 other guys are going to drive up to Madison Wisconsin for a nice little footbag jam and the HUGE Madison Halloween party. I went the last two years in a row and it's SOOOO fun. Every street in downtown Madison is jam-packed, sidewalk to sidewalk, with drunk, rowdy college kids in costume. It feel like it must be kinda like what Mardi Gras in New Orleans is like but probably not quite as big. The costumes are always great. I totally neglected figuring out a costume for myself this year though. I think I might just use the box for the bookshelf I just got, cut some arm holes and a face hole and go as a cardboard box :? . Pretty ghetto, but kinda funny too. I don't think I'm going to be able to kick though. My back's been killing me since I moved to my new apartment. I didn't bring my bed over until last night and I've just been sleeping on thin foam on the floor. Someone recently made the point that I should just see a doctor and make an effort to fix my back problem. I'm actually starting to consider it again. I have such an aversion to dealing with doctors. When my back first started having problems I went to couple different doctors ( physical therapists, a back surgeon, and just a standard family type) and the only results I got were blowing a lot of money. I had to stop seeing the PT because I just couldn't afford it anymore, and I remember just being so pissed off that something as important as healthcare was so unaffordable. And then I found a small set of stretches that eased the pain to the point that I really didn't feel it at all anymore, and kept that up for the last few years. But if I miss around 4-5 days my back would let me know. I don't want to have to do those streches for the rest of my life just to feel normal :x . So now I'm starting to contemplate what my next step should be if I really want to start fixing my problem. I'm thinking of trying to go the PT route again, but I'm not really sure yet. Oh well, I'll figure something out. Wish me luck.

Haha, I forgot to mention a fun moment of last week. I was taking a shower and when I was just about done my gf came into the bathroom. So I got out of the shower and grabbed her whole head with both hands and in a very angry and somewhat governatorish voice said: "I'M GOING TO CRUSH YOUR SKULL...............................................................................with love." Initially she was kinda 8O , but after a couple seconds we were both like  . I want to start doing more things like that. Taking a very ordinary situation and without warning say something ridiculous and threatening. Next time i do my laundry........

Yeah, I know, that's what you gotta help me with foo. That DVD will 85% drunk bottle-breaking, arm-punching, gibberish-talking, robot-dancing nonsense and 5% freestyle. The other 10% will be tim falling  .

Anyway, the late shred with Erik was fun. I was kinda bummed at first because I woke up a day before and my shin muscles were way sore, I must have sleep-jogged or something, and I thought I wouldn't be able to play much, but after I kicked for a little bit my legs warmed up and I felt ok. What ended up being the problem was my hair which has grown to the length now where no matter what I do to try and stop it, it ends up in my eyes :? It was a really fun session anyways. Erik Chan has the most consistant and controlled style. I could tell he was frusterated because of his injuries, but he was still kicking so good! I wish I could spin and duck like him. It was frusterating because all the moves look so simple when he does them and then when my turn comes they lose their simplicity. I had a few ok toe shuffle strings, but not much else. I tried blubberman kind of randomly and got the first half without to much effort. I think I could do the whole drill if I just tried it for like half an hour, I'll try that next session. That got me to thinking about Blubberman II (Pdx ripwalk>Pdx blur>Tripwalk repeat) and how fucking hard that would be. Man, real fucking hard, that's how! I bet someone could do it with the same jobs but with downtime componants like Pdx Dada>Voodoo>tripwalk repeat. That would still be way hard, Blubberman 1.5 maybe. I'd like to see that. Anyway, the weather for the jam was soooooo good. It's been in the 70s for the last 3 days which is crazy good for November in Chicago. Must have been a nice change for an Winterpeg Eskimo like Erik Chan :D . If the weather holds I got take full advantage of it this weekend and kick.

During the drunken punching game, as you closed your eyes and calmed yourself to gather and focus your Chi:

Reile, " I can feel it gathering inside of me..."
Zeke, " No, I think that's your bladder!"

Reile breaks concentration - swings, misses and hits the floor! I'm such a cheater
