ouch. it's hot. Just hung out some washing and my feet feel kinda burnt.

anyhow. Decided I won't play leauge...as... I got smashed...and....I don't really have the time to commit to 2 nights + one day of my weekend each week, especially for something I'm not terribly good at.

Footbag club is growing a bit...almost have enough members to affiliate which will be awesome hopefully I can get some sort of funding, due to the fact that after July, no one gets funding, ever. boo! Damn VSU.

on my personal game...not much new....actually...nothing new...I haven't been playing incredibly hard...just attempting impressive runs, and trying to teach some people some things. There's people doing stalls and stuff now....a couple are starting to get clippers, I think they will get the hang of it

I got an email about doing a demo in a couple of weeks, hopefully it will be worth a bit of cash.

I might have a kick a little later on when it cools down just to try and hit some new stuff...we'll see. I think I'm starting to get sick as well

Going to Brisbane next week for Overcranked :D woooooooooooo

maybe he goes to the ANU(s). But yeah...that'd be sweet

anyhow..I'm defintely doing this demo...going to be like....3 demos then just kick around. Pay is unconfirmed yet...but there's a free bbq, so I'm all for it. :P

haven't played that much this weekend...was busy with Tim's 21st and then my volunteer work for the Walk Against Want......all of that went well, and I didn't get run over by any cars while I was being a traffic marshal

hrrrrm

haven't posted in this thing for a while

I've been busy with uni, and organising the UCU Footbag Club.

Going to have the most small time competition, EVER, next weekend...it should be fun though

because the club members are generally n00bs, it will probably be competitions in four square and consecutives. Maybe I might have a freestyle contest also....see what happens.

I have a demo on Sunday...it's basically a thing of sports with minimal equipment

so I'm up against stuff like skipping, frisbee and quoits

I went to Brisbane last week, though I didn't get to shred...I wasn't there very long....I got in at 5:30am Friday morning, got drunk that night, went to Overcranked the next day, and flew home the day after that. Overcranked was good fun. Big moshes. Good times.

Tomorrow I'm going to the ACT skating titles at Tuggeranong....I dunno, I don't have high expectations from it.

Can I Scream? magazine will be out in the next week I hope. It's mainly about heavy music, but I've managed to sneak a footbag article in there :) A couple of the articles I wrote are cover headlines so I was all "sweet"

I think it was the Frankenbok interview and the Parkway Drive/Evergreen Terrace tour review

anyway...it's going to be free, which will be cool. yay!

On my footbag game...haven't kicked much this week.....I hit a couple of new things during the week...like...umm...barrage. I feel like I'm a long way behind everyone else. I don't really care though, footbag is not really my no 1 priority.............but what is? i hear you ask....and I think...I don't know. Probably going to shows....I know it's definitely not saving money..or going to uni....

yeah bedtime. Night.

Behind everyone? Don't think of it like that man (although it's hard not to I'll admit) footbag is a personal thing. At aus champs, yeah, I guess it's a competition, for 1 day. The rest of it and the rest of the year you're not competing, remember that :) props on barrage, toe? ;)

So the demo yesterday was a bit of fun...and also a bit of money, which means I can eat this week :D hooray!

it was pretty similar to the milo demos, where little kids would come by and want to kick, rather than an actual demonstration. I had a pretty good time actually....there was one kid Alex, who was getting to about 10 kicks consistently. There are couple of other kids who were pretty consistent. Then there were some who were incredibly uncoordinated.

It was a fundraising event for the "Blue Gum School" which Ihad never heard of before the event...they had some other games like qouits, skipping, bocce, badminton, frisbee and some other stuff.....footbag was actually pretty popular with the kids......as was being dragged around the hall on a carpet.

At the event I got some steak and 50 bucks cash which was sweet.

For this comp I'm holding, Lotus from elemental has kindly donated 3 bags which is sweet, it'll look like there's some sort of organisation to it :P

I have the day off uni today...yay for me!

So decided to push my footbag comp back to Friday week. For a few reasons really

* lots of people in the club are going to a 21st in Syd sat night, and won't make it back in time
* I can do promo like flyers and shit next week, when I have some cash
* if the bags from Lotus don't come til next week, it doesn't matter.

Anyway...I've been really impressed with Rhys (secretary of the UCU fotobag club) he comes and kicks quite a bit...he's just starting out..he used to play a lot of hacky sack at school...but he's getting stuff like toe stall, inside stall, outside stall and starting to try things like ATW. I'm impressed with his form. He's the main reason I'm rescheduling the comp, as you can't hold the comp without the hot favourite :P

on my own game....I'm finally started to figure out spinning...after I hit inspinning clipper midrun the other day, due simply to confusion, I've been trying to work it out a bit better....have footed spinning whirl a couple of times, which is quite exciting. I think at some stage today I hit spinning osis, I don't remember I was playing a fair bit

doing this thing for uni tomorrow...it's a mock media conference

so it rained the other day...will have to shred with him another time. Received my package from Lotus with the bags for the comp yesterday. Yay!

Going to do up some flyers and shit for the competition in the next couple of days...exciting times.

'Can I Scream' magazine comes out today. I'm quite excited :) There's even a footbag article in there.

This is the article, as I don't expect anyone else will be grabbing a copy of a zine mainly based on heavy music that's pretty well only available in Canberra at the moment

Australian Footbag Titles

Footbag? I hear you asking…what is that? Footbag is more commonly known as the game “hacky sack”, though hacky sack was actually the brand name used by the company Wham-O for one of the first footbags to come out during the 1970s.

There were some serious competitors assembled at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic centre on the 15th January 2006, with many coming from interstate and even international guests from New Zealand and Canada to compete at the Australian Freestyle Footbag Championships. There were a variety of events to compete in ranging from consecutive kicks for the novices, to the main events of Routines, Sick 3 and Shred 30.

With only two competitors in the consecutives, won by Janis from Melbourne, it was soon time for the routines to begin. A footbag routine consists of players performing tricks choreographed to a song, chosen by the player. The moves are mainly done by moving the legs around the bag, but also various other parts of the body, such as by ducking under the bag, then performing a trick. Routines last 2 minutes in opens and 1 minute 30 in intermediates.

The intermediates also featured a first, Caroline Birch, the first female competitor at the Australian titles. Hopefully there will be more female competitors in years to come. Enough so that there could be a division for the females. Time will only tell on that matter. All intermediate segments were won by Toby Suggate from Dunedin who showed an excellent knowledge on the basic skills and will be rising to bigger and better things in the future. Jason Po from Newcastle came in second, with Caroline third and Matt Boyall taking fourth place.

The music choices used in the open routines showed the wide variety of interests in the footbag scene with song selections ranging from Parkway Drive to MC Hammer or Bloodhound Gang to various trance and dance tracks to everything in between. With three Ausfootbag accredited judges giving scores out of six for both technical ability and also artistic ability, it was the players’ job not only to show their skills, but also to hit moves on the beat to get a better score.

Phil Morrison, another New Zealander was the winner of the event, with a near flawless routine, only dropping three times in a highly skillful routine full of difficult links. Canada’s own Dylan Fry came in second with Melbourne local Dan Ednie coming in third. The writer of this article, Daniel Boyle, was not so lucky, after a strong start, too many drops sent him down to 9th place.

The sick 3 is a challenge to hit your best three moves all in one combo. A problem for quite a few of the contestants in the open division was that they were trying to hit too big a combo, and failed to post any score at all. The surprise packet of the tournament was Jamieson Hickingbotham’s 3rd place in the sick 3 with an impressive combo of ripwalk>paradox drifter> paradox symposium whirl. The event was again taken out by Phil Morrison, who was really the star of the event, with Dan Ednie taking honours for second.

Shred 30 is an event which is decided by a formula based on the difficulty of moves hit and the number of unique tricks and contacts. Queensland youngster Jesse Malouf made the most of this with his run full of technical difficulty and lacking in drops taking him to second place, with Dylan Fry’s score of 219.56 enough to beat most of the world’s best. Phil Morrison came in third place.

After all the official events, a “shred battle” event was had. The rules were that each player had to play at their own skill level, making it somewhat of a handicap event. It was one on one, and the first to drop was eliminated. An early upset was Jason Po knocking out Dylan Fry. He went on to lose to Daniel Boyle, who went into the final of three with Dan Ednie taking victory and Phil Morrison just clenching second place.

The week in Melbourne also contained the inaugural Ausfootbag AGM, with members representing various states planning for the future of Australian footbag. Footbag is a sport that has the chance to grow if people are to become more aware of it.

so yeah...it's aimed at an audience pretty well unaware of footbag, so maybe even a few converts will come from it! Also going to write an article for nowUC, which is like an online school paper at uni. I should get to that sometime soon.

Anyway I'm really excited about the zine coming out. Being issue 1, and us having no money to make it, it's jsut been photocopied and stapled together....but that's how zines start...and then they grow and grow, and you don't have to fold and staple them yourself! I also wrote articles on the "Boys of Summer Tour" featuring Parkway Drive and Evergreen Terrace, an interview with Frankenbok, the gig guide...and an Alchemist review....although..that might not have made it into the zine.

Excellent to see you promoting the game :D

It's funny about the Canadian guy Tristan, I was talking to him on .org about coming to melbourne and he said he had nobody to kick with nearby so I suggested that he get in contact with you. It's good to see that you guys will be having a kick together :D
Tell us how it goes :D

yesterday I kicked with Tristan in Civic. it was good fun...he is just starting out at freestyle, but even though they're jsut stalls and stuff, he can do 10 or so contact runs.

Also kicked in the morn, which ended up being a massive four square match, good times had there.

My comp is on tomorrow

it will be badly organised, I can guarantee that much :P
