footbag videogame thoughts, and a....

Post by Oroza » 04 Aug 2006 21:27

I dunno....I dont really play video games anymore, well...once in a while, at someones house or so, but anyway, I was playing a tennis game me and this dude play when I'm at his house sometimes, and I got to thinking about Net footbag, and then video games, and I thought it would be cool if there was a footbag videogame that includes Freestyle, Net, and 4 square....which would be cool only if done right, so i thought how the controls would work... on a playstion controler I thought the joysticks could be your legs and to stall you could push them down/in, the left and right could be spins, symposium, jump....like i said....iduno, just some thoughts I had.....and I mean something that looks like tony hawk games not flash games

oh and speaking of flash games, this one is pretty good http://analogik.com/multimedia_samorost.asp

There are parts 2 and 3 now, I havent played them yet, this is the guy who made it:
Jakub Dvorsky aka Amanita
(Amanita is a group of mushrooms, most of which are highly poisonous when eaten).

Fascinating creativity demonstrated through a wonderful flash game. It's interesting to see a classic European animation style applied to a new medium such as Macromedia Flash.

I personally wouldn't even clasify this masterpiece as a game but interactive art!
I can feel a kicking circle controversy coming on...

This is somewhat on topic, but I found as I got deeper into the freestyle scene that most freestylers either have never played video games, or rarely do. It struck me as so odd because I grew up playing them all the time, but then I thought well footbag is kinda like a video game. And it could replace all that time on the couch pretty easily.

I don't play games nearly as much as before. I still play here and there, but shred has eclipsed video games by far. Hitting a new move or combo, or contact record is the most satisfying thing I've done in my life!!!

I can see what you mean about older or hardcore players, but you said it yourself, YOU grew up playing them, so did I, and if I had seen a footbag game that did it justice, maybe I wouldve started playing long ago, same goes for...etc, I mean, people talk about expanding the popularity of the sport, well there you go. And also note that skateboarders play skate games, and maybe even learn things from it...

its all ripe with potential.

yeah, I agree, but it's the whole 'chicken or the egg scenario.. We know which came first in skateboarding. The sport was immensely popular before a video game was even though of.

Will a video game spawn footbag popularity, or will footbag popularity spawn a video game. I think we know the answer to that one.

There was a game called "Tricks n Thrills" that was supposed to come out. They stopped making it for some reason. I think someone posted on here saying that there was demo at E3 and some footbaggers got to test it or something like that. Not sure if they said how the controls felt though.

Well, a while ago I started skateboarding, solely for the reason that Tony Hawk 2 came out and I loved it. So, if there was a footbag game that gave it justice, I would imagine many more people would actually play.

I'm sure if we get footbag a little bit more popular we can get a game...besides Parkour/Freerunning is coming out with a game. And footbag has been around long than it. :)

Yeah but to your blow joe on the street parkour looks 10x cooler than footbag. And games like skateboarding and parkour travel around and you can use different surfaces and jump to different areas that are difficult and.... footbag you're just standing on flat ground! I dunno, maybe you could incorporate some of that stuff also. Then again DDR is just standing and everyone loves DDR.

Man, now I can't wait for that parkour game to come out... I'm definately gonna get it and I'm not even much of a gamer. It'd be like all the jumping and climbing in splinter cell without the long periods waiting around and intense difficulty...

OK, I just went back and read the initial post and that would be sweet, freestyle 4-square and net. As you said, would have to be well done. I really like the idea of having certain core moves assigned to certain buttons and then adding modifies like symp or spinning. Obviously you would have a limit of core moves this way, but you could select which ones you want (tony hawk special moves style). Yeah, that would be cool.

wow, talk about rambling...

What's the point of a footbag game? Why wouldn't you just play footbag? The only time I could see this being useful is if a player was injured and couldn't play for months, but even so, I wouldn't want to play a video game.

lets say its rainy out... you don't want to play footbag for that particular day... or you somehow "can't" shred that day... you go inside and do the next best thing: play a video game of the real thing

i'd buy it

I think it would be a shame if a footbag video game was created. I would hate a bad footbag video game and an excellent footbag video game the same.

If you're injured and wanna stay involved with footbag, learn to stitch, get more involved with the IFPA, etc., etc.

I think an excellent footbag game would just pull away from footbag. I would feel as if it was trying to be a replacement.

you are completely wrong! games that people don't normally do (i.e. skateboarding) become more popular with video games. if you don't know anything about a sport/game like skate boarding, playing the video game will not only interest you in the activity, but will also educate you about the thing (i.e. trick names, techniques, games..) this could be the same for footbag; trick names, techniques, and games, like 4 square. tony hawk's pro skater games, sure interested me to get into skateboarding, and thus there u are, i have become and tried skateboarding... just as it will do to many other people for footbag

y not!?
