Disc Golf

Post by Muffinman » 07 Aug 2006 20:21

I had my first game of disc golf today; it's SUPER fun!!
Has anyone else played? We played on an actual course with those fancy chain net things. I think there's just the one course in my city.

There's a creek right through the middle and there's this one guy that went through the course, like, three times in the time it took my friend and I to go once, and at one point he tossed it over the creek and through a bunch of trees to make a hole in one; it was so crazy! It's so satisfying to make a decent hole; I think I only barely got a few :/

I played my first game of disc golf maybe three weeks ago. It was surprisingly fun! The course in my town has really short technical holes that I really enjoy. I had a few long bombed-hole-in-twos that I was proud of.

Yeah, disc golf is pretty awesome. I've gotten that and ultimate handed down to me via my dad.

Austin is disc-golf heaven. There are like 8 or 9 courses in this town, at least. I've only been to one. I heard the other day that there was a course walking distance from where I used to live and I had no idea it existed while I was living there.

It's actually a lot of fun! You don't need to be that good at frisbee... ahem! flying disc... whatever to have fun with it. It helps to be good, but it's not a necessity. As long as you can throw the thing relatively straight you'll get by. Plus it's free (at least it is here) which is a big plus. Great lazy Sunday activity.

A fun thing is to bring a footbag with your group and circle kick between holes while you're waiting for the next group to go (if it's busy)

Disc Golf is the greatest thing in the history of golf. And discs.

And throwing stuff.

I got big into Disc golf along with another Footbag player, and have spread footbag to other Disc golfers.

We had a good four-square session going, with a group of guys who probably couldnt kick it more than 3 or 4 times in a row.

One golfer I know always keeps a footbag in his golf bag, and kicks when there is a backup on the golf course. Ill call him to tell him about fridays session.

One of the kickers who was at the lake the other Friday (when we had 5 or 6 shredders) said that Disc was his main sport. He seemed like he was into freestyle also, already having got lavers.

If we have 4 or more shredders on Friday, i am gonna make sure we play at least one game of 4-square.

Other cool things about Disc golf:

1. Bring your own beer.

Compared to ball golf, where you might have to pay $3 or so, for a can of Piss-weiser, you can bring your own fatty beers on the course.

You could be ticketed by the police, though, for drinking at few local courses, under certain conditions.

2. Cheap

None of our local courses charge greens fees.

I've heard of other courses with a small fee, possibly to pay for a whole day of golf. Still a bargain.

For the price of paying for one round of ball golf at an average golf course, you could buy 2 or 3 premium golf discs. You really only need one disc to play, although I would recommend at least 2 or 3, or 10.

I was hoping Ben would mention the huge Disc Golf scene in Austin so I wouldn't have to.

Wait, I just did...

awesome! I've been playing disc golf for about seven years. It is such a gun game. We have three courses in our city. I really like the courses around Portland. any of you that are going to the us open should bring your discs.
