I do also love comics.

Many great things has been mentioned here.

Something completely differnet is Cheech Wizard by Vaugh Bodê.
A great comic with a really strange mainperson and some really funny small stories.
You can find lots of the stories for free on the internet.
Just use google.

Im looking forward for you Graphic Novel collection Peng. Please write a few words about each Novel.

Yeah, I remember seeing that same short on Rey's forum and checking out his website. I was super inspired by his layouts and colours! It seems really loose...very Rey-esque in fact.

Do you have books too Asmus? Let's see your list.
Does anyone read Powers? (Brian Bendis and Mike Oeming). I have a bunch of the TPBs, but at the last book I have something CRAZY happens, and I've been pretty eager to see what happens in the next one; that's one that I started collecting for Oeming's style, but continued for the story. I'm not digging the drawings as much as I first did, but the story is GOOOD.

Here are links to a bunch of the online artists who really got me into everything that I'm into now. There are many others that I should add to that list, but I highly recommend Alan Tew (!!!!!). And L0cke was really great, but then he got a girlfriend.... (Check out his comics! Very Shirow inspired; particularly his cityscapes.)

EDIT: I looked up Cheech Wizard; I dig the style a lot!! Have you ever read Sergio Aragones' Groo? Groo kicks ASS. Very funny poetic barbarian adventures.

Plus this guy probably inspires me the most in the, "How can anybody be that good???" Sort of way. ( http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showth ... 92&page=30 ) Which is ridiculous, because even he has things to learn from THIS amazing Leonardo-esque master: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=25653

Yeah I have checked out Groo. Great strip. You should really check out Vaugn Bode's (The guy with Cheech Wizards) strips about a Caveman just called "The Man" you can find it in the book Schizophrenia: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/156097 ... oding=UTF8
Its much more philosophic but still quite hillarious.

Well I have .. That I'm proud off:
Cheech Wizard Vol 1 by Vaughn Bode
Schizophrenia by Vaughn Bode
(http://www.lambiek.net/artists/b/bode.htm)
The Lizard of Oz by Mark Bode (Tribute to his father) I think this might be a signed copy. I can't choose if i think the signature is real or fake. :D
Some Akira books like 1 - 4 or something.
The Iron Wagon by Jason
(http://www.lambiek.net/artists/j/jason.htm)
Some comics by Enki Bilal which i got from my father. I love this guys art.
I dont have a big collection at all!
Jacques Tardi's two first issues of his stories about the french revolution.

But mostly I go to the Library because im poor.

And this guy is super inspirering: http://capitainedub.blogspot.com/ CHECK HIM OUT ERIK!

I've been reading lots of comics lately.

The best one has been Wolverine by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller.
The story was really good. And I really like Frank Millers art.
I think his work on background is really inspiring he doesn't draw many backgrounds, he just uses symbols in a really well way, so you easily can get a clear image of what sort of location the persons are at.

I have also read worth to mention:
George Pratt's - Batman: Harvest Breed
George Pratt's - Wolverine: Kensuke
He got a fucking amazing style I just dont like his stories that much.
Bill Jemas - Wolverine: Origin <- I didn't like this one actually..

I liked the whole Wolverine #100 plotline, where he had the adamantium removed from his bones and his claws were just regular bone (inspiration for Marrow?). It was all samurai-esque and awesome. He was so grizzly!!!!

Yeah, Frank Miller is good.
Do you like Tim Sale? I almost like his stuff better.
The Frank Miller style is also why I started reading Powers. His Dark Knight stuff is pretty awesome. That might be my favourite. I have his Daredevil on my computer too, but it's really oldschool and I couldn't get myself to read it, nevermind on a computer... I've heard that its awesome.

I've been waiting every single day this week for a couple books I ordered a while back. Ahr. I found a box set of The Bible graphic novels...they're really amazing!!! Like back when anatomical correctness and reality was more popular than superficial style.

I never looked into Tim Sale. But i just searched him on google and his style looks top nice. I might check his stuff out.

The next thing I want to buy is:

Something by this guy: http://www.deliciousbrains.com/ = Paul Maybury.
He is totally underground and I think it will be hard to find something from him. Especially when I live in Denmark but I really like his coloring (even tough its so simple) and his humour.

Other than that I really want to buy - How to draw comics the marvel way.
By Stan Lee and John Buscema.

I just looked up "Powers" on Wikipedia. And the story idea sounds great.
I dont know what to think about the art .. But .. Well ..
This just got really high up on "I have to check this out"-list.

Thanks for showing Erik.

Seriously!

I have How To Draw the Marvel Way. I've never used it much, though. I think most of it is stuff that I know and doesn't really help me with the things that I'm trying to learn. I really need a good anatomy book. I went to Digital Chameleon (now-defunct comics colouring company) about 8 years ago and they highly recommended How To Draw The Marvel Way as well as some other stuff including Burne Hogarth books. I have two of Hogarth's books. The problem is they're way too awesome for me. I think he has an anatomy book, so I should look into that. One of the ones I have is Dynamic Figure Drawing, which is REALLY great for creating REAL, three dimentional figures from your head... I guess it's hard to explain, but it's all about foreshortening and great stuff like that (something you really need to already understand anatomy to be able to utilize...). He's a genius.

Yeah, Powers is a really good story.

Maybury's style looks a LOT like Sam Hiti's. I like it.

Today when I was heading down to the Library next to my Boarding School to get rid of my last comics I did fall over a little treasure..
Sandman: Preludes. And I liked it. I dont like the drawings that much but I absolutely adore the panelwork. Still so ahead of the most even though its 15 years old. The story is not that interesting but really well-written. Im not much into fantasy and magic and stuff anymore so it was a bit hard for me to relate to it. But I really liked the parts about peoples dreams. I dont think I'll ever think about my dreams in the same way.

And I will probably order "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way" on friday.

Hey!
I never thought to mention this before, but one of those illustrators whose work I've followed online for years recently published a book called PENG. It's not terribly awesome, but it's got a pretty rad and unique surmise; it's about kickball (PENG being the sound that occurs when one of those big red balls is kicked!)

I thought you would be interested, Peng!

Hooray for comics.
Scott Pilgrim 3 is rad so far; it's kind of one of those books where I wonder why I like it, or why anyone likes it when I start a volume, but then when the silliness starts I remember why it is so awesome. They sent me the Free Comicbook Day issue with my order, and I also got Hopeless Savages (the issue by Mal). Thinking of ordering a couple Powers TPBs that I'm missing. Still wondering when Joe Mad's Ultimates series starts (or if it has already...)

http://www.reyyy.com/sharknife/

"Sharknife is an action / comedy, style-saturated adventure for kids starting at 11 and going up into the adulthood stratosphere. It is basically entirely awesome insane fight scenes grouped with clever-absurd dialogue and sexy characters. "

I just ordered a ton of books today! I'm so excited!!
I ordered:

Masamune Shirow's:
-Black Magic
-Dominion (there are like two books, yes? One is Dominion and is similar to the anime "Tank Police", and the other is called "Conflict 1", or something...I think I got the "Conflict 1", which is apparently different than the anime I love so much; all Shirow's works are amazing, though, so I'm not worried in the slightest)
-GITS 2: Manmachine Interface (I downloaded this one a while ago, and I'm not a big fan of his overly digital rendering and such. I LOVE his drawings and his pen and ink textures and techniques, so I actually love the areas of the book that bring that out most. I haven't read the book yet.)

Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal:
-14: Last Blood
-15: Trickster
(I have all the books up to this point, and they're really good.)

Brian Bendis/Michael Oeming's Powers:
-6: The Sellouts
-9: Psychotic (I'm stoked about this one; the last volume left us with a really CRAZY event. To understand how awesome Powers is one must read volume 7 ("Forever") -- it's unbelieveable. The sad part about that is that it kind of takes away from itself without having read the previous 6 volumes :?)

I'm really excited for my Shirow books, and for Powers #9. I was also attracted to picking up the Akira books. The Akira books and my Shirow books are over half price of what they would sell for in a store from Amazon.ca! There was something else I wanted too, but I forget what... This package is going to be huge! :D

I hope I have some money in spare when Worlds and the Festival is over.

Erik, do you have anymore short stories you want to share?
Where do you download comics?

I can link you to some kickass online shorts:
http://thrilled.syste.ms/ (a sub site by Mal which hosts some earlier "Studio XD" works (mainly the trio of awesomeness that is Mal, Rey, and L0cke))

Definately read "Ride" by L0cke (at the bottom of the page); Trepanation is really good too.

Actually, I would just suggest checking out L0cke's site, but it's kind of hard to navigate ( http://damaged.anime.net anyways...). I will link to some of my favourites of his:
http://damaged.anime.net/dualboot.htm

Oh, it seems like his website hasn't been working for a while, and there are three other comics I would have linked but aren't working (Shadow Gear, Blade Pro, and Skin Tight). L0cke's comics are really really good; his earlier works are HUGELY inspired by Shirow and it's super obvious in a really awesome way. He hasn't really drawn much for the past couple years though (since he got a girlfriend...) Blade Pro reminded me a lot of Battle Angel Alita (which is kind of a "classic" anime, I think...).

There was this website a long time ago called "Panel Tag" (one of Rey's projects I think...) that was one of those online improv comic sites, where different illustrators sign up to work on subsequent portions of a single story, and each kind of takes the story where they want it to go. They were usually about 10 pages per go. There was a zombie story called "Run" that both Rey and L0cke did segments for; Locke's was really really good and I wish I knew where to find it online. I have it on my computer somewhere, but I'm having those FTP problems... (Oh, I wrote this paragraph after the next)

I was also going to upload an issue of Ashley Wood's Metal Gear Solid series, but my internet has been wonky lately and it no worky.

Oh yeah, and I have Sharknife -- it's a really rad action book; very original and hip, as Corey Lewis tends to be. It's kind of nothing more than that though ;)

I recently read Alan Moore's Watchmen. I think someone mentioned it in this thread. I only read it because my girlfriend's stepdad borrowed it from the library and asked if I wanted to read it -- I decided to try it because it's a "classic"... I appreciate the drawings to an extent (it took a while just for that!), but I really don't like them, and that's the main reason that I never bothered to read it; I'm an aesthete. It's a very slow moving book, and it seemed really pointless for the first two chapters. Once I hit chapter three, though, things started coming together and it was really brilliant. I'd recommend it, but would have to warn that the first two chapters take some patience.

I also finished Shirow's Dominion and it was good. His humour and seriouslessness really came out in this book, and added a lot of flavour. He must have plugged Appleseed #4, like, 6+ times in the backgrounds. There was a pretty sweet panel where a giant dog (mascot of the Tank Police I think I read somewhere...) appears out of nowhere, and asks, "Why am I here?"

Absolutely! I was bored to tears but couldn't quit yet! Once I was halfway through I was hooked. An awesome story and I really appreciate the art now

I didn't read the thread so forgive me if it's been posted but Sandman is fantastic. I've read through it at least 15 times by now and each time I love it a bit more.

The Bendis run on Daredevil is great too, even if you're not a fan of superhero books.

I just finished a short danish comic called Ghost. Black and White.
No conversations. Very Beautiful. Here are two images:

Oh yeah and I have also "Marvel 1602" laying here. Will probably start reading it today or tomorrow.
