Wow. It's kind of hard to believe that after all he's been through. We will miss him.

Its crazy, cause he like took down croc's bigger than him, yet it was a stingray barb to the chest that killed him...

Didn't he get bit by a venemous snake once?

yes, he will be missed

Goodbye Steve Irwin

Wow. Is that Monday as in it's already Monday in Australia?
I guess it was only a matter of time in his line of work, but he really seemed invincible.

Actually he leaves behind his wife Terri, and children Bindi and Bob.

Yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of his over-the-top aussieness, but the guy did a hell of a lot of work toward conservation for the environment and animals.
He was a bit of a hero in that respect.

I guess, in the end, he died doing what he enjoyed.

Crikey!!

I heard he took it right in the heart.

At least he was a professional life-risker. I would bet that he was very well insured. I do feel for his family, but it makes me feel a little better to think that he most likely left them well off, and makes me feel even better to know that he died doing his thing. I hope when I die, it's because I am trying alpine superduperfly and accidentally flip upside down in the air and break my neck.

I wouldn't be too certain. Insurers are in the business of writing policies that they are less likely to have to pay-up on, not policies that they are more likely to have to pay-up on. Its the same with health insurance: those guys prefer to insure people who are healthy, because they collect your monthly premiums from you but don't actually have to pay many of your bills because you're healthy and thus not at the doctor's office much, thus they make more money insuring healthy people than they do insuring sickly people. In fact, people that are already very ill sometimes (often?) cannot even get health insurance, because those companies are allowed to refuse your business if they want to, and why would they want to take your business if it will cost them more than they will ever make off of you? It can be much the same with life insurance: insurers probably look at people involved in extremely risky behaviors (wrestling large toothy carnivorous reptiles and handling all sorts of poisonous animals) and say "we don't really want to insure you, sir," because they prefer to write life insurance policies on people who are less likely to die in circumstances requiring them to pay. That way they make more money.

I'm sure ol' Steve was able to get a policy, people are almost always able to one way or the other, its simply that Steve probably had to pay much more for his policy that you would for yours, plus it probably pays out less. I guess its a bit off-topic, but I just felt like offering a little lesson on the nature of insurance.

It's very sad

You know, it's strange. I was thinking about him this morning. I remember seeing the show on TV years ago and thinking "man I can't believe that crazy mofo hasn't been killed yet!". So I guess from the glass-is-half-full perspective, it's amazing he lived as long as he did considering how often he was in mortal danger.

Guys lets not turn this into a topic arguing about liability insurance. Insurance or not I'm sure his family will be taken care of one or another.

You know...We always thought the same things here as well about him being killed yet.

And yeah it is suprising he lived so long while putting himself in all of those deadly situations.

All in all though, He was always interesting to watch. He also seemed to do a lot for the Austrailian Wildlife, and was a good guy who will likely be missed by many.
