Hello, my name is Ian Pfeiffer. I am 18, I live in Pittsford, New York, near Rochester and the Rochester Footbag Association. I landed my first around the world sophomore year, but only started really shredding senior year. I still don't think of myself as tiltless because I need to work on my consistency, even though I have landed a few guiltless tricks. I started stitching with facile in march and i've made four bags, though i still have exposed stitches when I stretch the panels apart, so I'm working on that. I think that's about it for my backstory. Being that it's spring break, I've been waking up and shredding for at least an hour a day, and I am really seeing results. I'm getting more consistency flipside, and I'm developing flip clippers quickly. My goal right now is to be able to lay down about 15 contacts by April 27th, which is GRASS, and I want to show the RFA I actually did improve somewhat, even though they are far and above my skill level, so it's unlikely they'd notice.

Welcome Ian.

And regarding the RFA not noticing your progression because they are way better than you. It's actually the total opposite, because they are so much better than you (and totally nice guys) they will for sure see all the progress you've made and probably be stoked.

If I make it to GRASS I will see you soon!

Stay keen!

Ian, welcome to modified.

Great to hear that you are drilling hard and want to get good at footbag, especially the attention to working your flipside. You are very lucky to live in one of the best shred towns in north america with some of the friendliest footbag players there are (OK I've only met 2 of them myself, but yeah they are friendly). I'm sure they will notice.

Your 1st footbag tournament is always an awesome experience. Make the most out of it by introducing yourself to everyone and playing in as many circles as possible. Don't be afraid to ask for advice or help, but at the same time when people do offer help listen carefully and heed what they have to say. What you learn from one tournament can often be equal to what you would learn from a month or two of drilling on your own. So enjoy it and soak it up.

Also, please make sure to register on footbag.org (if you haven't already). Having registered players adds legitimacy to the sport of footbag and helps us attain our goal of one day being an olympic sport :P

Hope to see some good posts in this blog in the future :)

a good hour and a half later shredding today and my legs are pretty well spent, what with the hours i've been doing daily trying to get ready for GRASS. Since I'm working consistency, I stayed the hell away from guiltless, and just stuck with the basics. The man doug had told me of a strategy where you use a cd or a playlist and you use each song as a separate drill. my drills today were:
Toestalls to warm up and get that unconscious
atws bs both ways
lo's for a few songs because i suck at them
clipper bs, a song for each side, and a song of switching sides
mirage bs, i've been trying to play them really crisp and i think I'm finally getting that flipside too
illusion bs, since i just started them, I'm about as good flipside as regular, so i got about two in a row for both sides
mirage>near mirage bs, I almost have it, but i keep forgetting flip mirage and just go mirage>near mirage>near mirage, and start screaming haha.

actually, i did have a good time with my flip clippers today. I got five in a row, which has been my goal to hit by the end of the week, so I can see the improvement a couple hours a day makes. definitely. my lo's were kinda sucking today though. a couple days ago, i had ten in a row, today, all i could get was six. If I'm going for string length, consistency and lo's will be needed. ill have to drill that for a few songs tomorrow.

had a good one hour session yesterday. not as long as for the past week, just because all my other sessions wore me out. But it was a good session actually. i figured out that my legovers were failing me before because I wasn't setting them right. they were too close to my body before, but now that i set them slightly over and about knee length out, they were easy. I got 10 in a row of those, and I footed the 5th clipper on my flip clipper. I did the same drills as the day before, and I'm really getting better at defining the downtime in my mirages. Even flipside. I think they look pretty good. Oh yeah, yesterday I stitched up a bag too, and it's looking nice. I finally figured out how to stitch where I don't expose stitches when I stretch the panels apart. That was a breakthrough. probably going to drill today, so stay tuned for updates

good little session yesterday, although i couldn't go for long because I had a otn of homework i needed to do to salvage my grades. Hmm nothing great, mostly it was just stringing because i didnt have time to drill, but it was good chilling with doug and jon and Bobby

Great session today. only about 1.5 hours long with friends, but I got paradox mirage on both sides well sealed and almost bsosed it. I also did a modified version of a torque, like instead of putting it through like a mirage, i put it through like a stepping motion, but the general effect was there I think. I dont know. i think my style as it develops is going to be a lot different than doug's though, because we were talking and he is alot more leggy whereas my hip flexibility comes in handy enough that most of the time I can set up the dexing window with no trouble at all and just let it drop and catch at the last moment. i worked on bubba's too but those are tough for me still. It was a good session though because of the three new tricks:
pdx mirage bs
stepping motion torque? i dont know how to put it

Sounds like either stepping far osis or crispy torque.

I look forward to seeing you and everyone at Grass.

stepping far osis. I was close i thought it was stepping same side osis but i didnt want to sound like a noobie. Ill be looking for you at grass too man.

had a few minor sessions of shred, nothing even to get me sweating yesterday, but i got a drill about 4 times through before dropping that i couldnt get one of before i started drilling. the drill was
toe stall>op toe stall>op clipper>op toestall>op toestall>op clipper etc.

just a stalling drill but it was cool seeing my improvement. and i footed a double over down pretty easily, so when club comes up today, that'll be a cool little thing to whip out or practise

yesterday i had two different hack sessions, both of which were good. I had about an hour and a half of various low level stuff, but it was still fun. Then I had an hour of shred with doug that night, and it was insane. I sealed reverse whirl cleanly enough to keep playing about 5 times, and i got a really nice stepping far osis, and i got my paradox mirages too. not too much else i think, but still really good. the reverse whirl really thrilled me. now all i have to do is land it flipside. oh yeah and i got 17 right clippers in a row, which is a new record, so that's cool too

so i had the first real session today for a few days and it was actually a really nice one for me. for a while, i was hitting 5-10 contact strings. and these were not rarities. i carried them out, they were smooth, they were nice. doug said so too. as well, i got reverse whirl and whirl on strong side today. that was nice, but i need to work flipside more and i recognise that because i dont want to get one legged and obsessed with my progress there. i want to be rounded and crisp and probably hippy because im catching things i cant even see just because i know how to set up my window and then i know where my foot is. its so cool progressing. cant wait for tomorrow

havent updated in a while, but i figure its a good time. Ive been progressing really well in the past week. I've landed reverse whirls and real whirls during every session in the last week and thats sweet. It's GRASS today, but i can't come till about 230 which sucks butt, lemme tell ya. Oh well. I had the school talent show last night and i got 5th place out of 14 acts, so that was pretty good. i mixed juggling and hackeysack and i got the audience to laugh alot, so that was good. ill post some detailed notes about sessions from now on though

it's been a while but i haven't really had much to post about lately either. yesterday was a really good day though. got to hack with Chris dean and doug and a new guy named Jeff. he was really good for the few weeks he had been playing. in my own defense, i fanally started holding my own. I was getting tricks that chris clapped at and he liked my whirl style and everything too. yesterday i got

Drifter both sides different strings
stepping clipper
osis's
oh yeah, the mirage>same mirage rep. drill twice
not too much else but it was all good times. got to watch chris and remember why i think footbag's amazing. because of him and the rest of the RFA. not too much else to say except footbag's awesome.

so on thursday, doug and i went out to buffalpo to hack with cross and a few other guys. It was AMAZING. I love watching someone who really knows how to handle a bag. supreme string length for cross and for doug. someone paid Doug a dollar, and Cross got two girls' numbers. I did pretty well for myself, and cross loved my bag so that thrilled me.

he gave me some assignments to work on. they were:
clipper>same butter>butter>same butter>butter
Same butter>osis rep.
mirage>same mirage rep
i've landed the mirage drill before, but nothing else. looks like it's gonna be fun!

December 1st 2007

Post by century264 » 01 Dec 2007 17:50

So I'm renewing the footblog. I'm not on too much, but I aim to change that. I want to keep progressing at footbag and i think the best way to do that is to feel guilty when I don' t play and have anything to write in...my footblog. yeah. so really the last six months since just I have been playing but not too much more than casually except at the beginning of college, when I didn't have too many friends yet. But now I'm basically back where I was, especially with ski season coming in. But here and now, I'm making it my goal to play four hours of footbag a week or more, to at least keep everything going. My ultimate goal is to get 50 tiltless by the time YEAH 07 comes around and to be consistently guiltless by the time GRASS comes to town. Be good in time to show off, in other words. We shall see. So with that said I'm gonna go hack in a bit before I take a shower, because I'm nasty from the first day of snowboarding season this year. Ill update later tonight. pfeiffer out
