Striving to be like the Europeans on this forum

Post by shredzilla » 07 May 2007 13:43

I mentioned this in another thread, but I guess at this point I'm just plain sick of every American on here. Yet I really look up to the Europeans, the Montrealers, the New Zealanders, etc. They don't act like arrogant assholes all the time.

Growing up, and into my adult years I always wondered why Europeans had kind of a bad outlook on Americans. It's because we're jerks. Period.

TV, Movies, the Internet, it's all taught us how to think we're smart, make smart-ass remarks all the time, constantly try to 1-up each other, put each other down, show off just to show people how good we are, or that we're better than them. Our entire culture thrives off of labels and brands, whatever we can buy to make ourselves look and feel important in relation to others.

Even when I go to tournaments, you always feel the attitude from Americans, but Europeans are always so much friendlier. Anyway, I've been feeling this for a while, and just felt it needed to be said. You guys can flame me or whatever, you don't even have to respond. But I'm just tired of being an asshole American and being treated like sh*t by other asshole Americans on this forum. Let's all suck it up, get that chip off of our shoulder, and start treating people the way WE want to be treated.

meh you cant blame the whole american demographic here on modified, some people are nice, and never says rude remarks, i really dont think ive ever blatently flamed someone just because ive never liked them. There may have been a few time where i was defending my self, or trying to help someone and got caught in the crossfire, but hey it happens, moving on...........

BUT on the other side of that there is a definately chip on some of the americans shoulders, they act like dicks, because they know this is an internet forum, and not real life, but what im not so sure, is how some people percieve them, so that could be a factor as well.

as far as jams and tourneys go....

ive never been to a tournement where i felt any kind of hostility at all, sometimes people get into tiffs but hey, were people who doesnt? I just got back from mjf...canadians and americans were, there, the whole time there were no arguments, of any sort, the jam was pretty chill rlaxed and fun. So i guess it may happen, but its never happened to me :P

i dont feel like just because we are american, we get put into this category of horrible people. ive met a lot of nice footbaggers from other countries, but ive met a lot of nice american footbaggers. there are more nice americans on this forum than there are rude ones, its just we tend to notice the rude and rebellious more than the nice ones working behind the scenes. steve goldberg, jim penske, daryl, zeke, riley, paul a, tom k, emily, david, abshire, matt c, and hundreds more are awsome and live in america.

its not a matter of culture, manners, demographics, or language; its a matter of focusing on the bad things rather than apreciating the good.

Chris, if you got mad because of my comment about your picture in the paint contest thread, don't put your work out there if you don't want honest comments/opinions. Cool? If you didn't get mad, cool.

I think your idea of every American being an asshole or arrogant is pretty well off. Personally, I post smartass comments or seemingly harse statements only to my friends. I don't flame. I don't bitch. I don't fight over the internet. Period. I can name about 30 americans I know personally on modified who don't flame or act stupid.

It seems to me that you've realized you've been a dick in the past and regret it. Now you're trying to make right, but to take guilt off yourself you're making wide sweeping generalizations to include others in your pit to shift blame.

I think much of what you said in your original post you pretty much wrote about yourself without thinking it, but included everyone else, once again, to shift blame. I personally have never felt someone was being a dick to me at a tournament, (cept Goldberg who was making fun of me for how bad I suck at four square :) )

Just because you've gotten "attitude" from other Americans at tournaments, you assume everyone else has? I've been to four and I never felt like I was getting any.

You also mention Europeans like you know tons personally, and have played footbag with them extensively. What Europeans have been to tournaments you have been to?

I don't think I'm that far off. Erik Chan? Everyone always goes ON and ON about how he's the nicest guy on modified. I personally don't see it. I've seen him flame people, make rude remarks to new people, and to be honest, the only people I see him being nice to are better players than him in vid threads.

The guy hurt himself playing footbag. Now you have to worship him? Hell, I sent him a PM when I was new asking him about something and he never responded. Nicest footbagger ever!!!

Who's flaming Jamses? I'm having an intelligent discussion. You're the one running around calling people idiots and homosexuals. I know you're only 18, but man it's gonna be time to grow up soon.

No, you mis-read my statement. When I said 'You can just feel the attitude from the Americans', I meant 'I could just feel the attitude from the Americans.'

And no Danny, I'm not the only one who has been a dick on modified, and this isn't my way of making up for it. You're still clueless, like 90% of the other people.

Wow, you've known me and Drew Martin as FRIENDS for YEARS???

Haha, I've met you at 1 tournament. I would hardly call you a friend. Have you even met Drew Martin?

I said Montrealers. Idk, they're French-Canadians that I've met at east coast tournaments. Look, I know those are generalizations, and that's my point. I can sit here and name every person I think is an asshole, or I can give you examples to look at. Which would you prefer Zeb?

No where did I say you're the only person who's been a dick. Where did I say this?

You also didn't answer my question about how you know all this about the perfect europeans.

The point is Danny, your post made it seem that I'm the only one who's ever been a dick on here, and now I'm trying to make it right! Which isn't true. Most people on here in one way or another have been dicks. I am not trying to shift blame or anything. I'm trying to make this forum easier for me to read. Topics like 'How do you wipe your asshole' and 'How do I eat out my girlfriend' are not appropriate, and are being perpetuated by inconsiderate assholes.

At any rate, I can't continue this right now, so feel free to disect and pick apart more of my posts JUST SO THAT YOU CAN FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF.

Drew Martin? Eh, you can have it Chris, don't bother quoting it.

You almost got me mad Millz, but hey, internet right? Just remember when everyone told me you were a bitch, I kept an open mind and didn't treat you different. I even would have called you a friend even though I didn't agree with everything you had to say. Whatever Chris, you win the argument, but lost my respect and my friendship.

When you're misrepresenting what I said and calling me clueless it's "intelligent conversation" but when others call you out for things you've said, it's just so that they can feel good about themselves?

Dude, WHAT friendship?????????????????

Haha, I think this is my problem. Everyone in footbag deals with life completely different than real people. You're my FRIEND cuz you met me at a tournament. Dude gimme a break. I have friends I've known my whole life. REAL friends. Don't call me your friend. I didn't lose your friendship. I never had it to begin with.

Friendship is EARNED. Trust is EARNED.
