i messed up my broka mod on my lavers, i cut into the backing on the heel, i don't know what i was thinking.... and as i was cutting off the insides i must have cut into the canvas a little because the canvas is starting to thread away. they've stayed together surprisingly long though, but i am definately going to buy a back up pair, maybe climas.

it took me like 3 hours to mod the canvas layer out of my lavers... I was trying to be as careful as possible... But one thing I regret is cutting off my walls, I just didnt like them at the time, and I guess since Im a beginner, thats not much of a mistake... But, Broka mod is one of my favorites, It improved my clipper/crank a lot, and it also made my lavers more comfortable (im not sure if it did that for everyone, but it did for me) :D

Learn how to sew. It'll do you wonders (for shoe repair).

ha, if i could only shoe you the shoe repair i did that must be holding the shoe together. oh man it sucks. it looks like i just took a piece of string and went mad goin back and forth throught the canvas, then tied a realy big knot to hold it all together. also in the heal of the lavers where it says rod laver, inside that plastic is a foam, i cut into that foam thinking that the broka cut was supposed to do that. i had to sew it up (and did a piss poor job) because the foam was leaking everywhere.
my laces are the best too, i just took white ribbon, and used that as a lace, then tied an impossible-to-untie knot that i can somehow fit my foot through, honestly though i love my shoes....

unfortunately the repair job i did sucks, and no i cannot ever sew, tomorrow, i'll borrow my brothers camera, and take a picture of them, and the only footbag i'll ever sew just to show u that i should never hold a needle and thread. now you know why i want to buy a new pair

Maybe I should make a living modding people's shoes, just for these reasons.

Patchwork, secure brocka mods, surface replacement, etc. - I've done them all. :P The only thing I haven't worked out successfully is the hole that develops on the outside of the shoe when you do too many low-to-the-ground swirls (particularly against hard pavement like concrete), and replacing the surface for the toe.

I think me and Zach Forth should start a small business for footbaggers, by footbaggers. Just a thought.

I succesfully replaced tow fabric on my black lavers. That held up right past the sole wearing down without any touch-ups or anything.

Cut the whole tongue out, all the way out to you tip toe; cut the toe-surface-part off of the rest of the tongue; replace said fabric with material of your choice (cut out the shape of the toe surface with lots of extra room -- you want to cut out lots of extra beacause you're going to fold the edges over and iron them in place giving you a double layer of fabric with which to attatch your new surface to the shoe [this is for extra strength], and you want enough that you'll still have room to stitch/glue the piece in place); (hard part)--> baste the whole piece (tongue + new toe surface) back in place, as it had been with the previous material (5-7 staple-style, or ringlette-style [ie: into the shoe, out of the shoe = just 2 holes] stitches at the obvious stress points [10-14 holes, with all the stitches added up]); get some shoe goo(/any kind of strong, prefferably flexible glue) on your finger tip and apply it to the gaps between all your stitches.

sorry if it's hard to understand... fun night.

If you learn to sew, you can fix just about anything.

I modded out the inner Canvas, so it's just the twill. After I did the Brocka mod I was kicking and stepped on my left heal while jumping up. It tore all the way to my toe, the laces were just hanging there. A little Ultra Suede and we're back in Business. I thought the right shoe looked a little boring so I cut into it and backed it too.

Have fun with it, ridiculous looking shoes is what it's all about 8)

Found them in an ebay garage sale, guy wore them once then put them away until he put them up for sale so they were basically new. Back from around 2001 O.O Lucky Ebay Find.

Payless for the win :

Post by Hobit » 10 Jul 2008 16:43

I bought a pair of $32 Airwalk - Flips from Payless shoe store and decided
to have a go at modding them a bit . Only the inner wall so far and stepped
the laces back nothing to tech . Here they are :

Not bad so far . Cant think of any other mods that will work on these shoes .
The design of the toe box are wont allow me to mod it its part of the tongue
and laces zones . Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome . Just experimenting realy but i thought id post em anyway .

if you could spend $32 on a pair of airwalks, you could of spent $30 on G-units or $30 on a pair of twill lavers... but hey, whatever floats your boat

I never understood why they started making skate shoes super bulky. It seems like it would inhibit your foot's full range of motion to manipulate the board for tricks. Same for footbag really, smaller and tighter the shoe, the easier it is for your foot to do what you want it to. Airwalks are awesome though, I miss my old school 'walks...

they are more bolky, because the the boards griptape wears away at the shoe constantly... and they had to make them have a thick leather toe and inside/outside layer to prevent the shoes from dying quickly... And skate shoes have a low ankle profile, so moving your ankles in them is really easy...

I could really go for some bulky skate shoes for casual wear, but I don't really know what to put my money on. I usually just wear a back-up pair of Lavers/Quantums/G-units to break them in through walking before I mod them. Or, not mod them at all and just sport them.

I was thinking of getting some Simple sneakers a couple of months back, but for a while I'm still divided on what to wear for casual kicks. Anyone have any recommendations?

My price range can go up to $60-70 for this, since that is the usual price for the Simple O.S. sneaker. Vans are pretty cool, and so are DCs. It's just a matter of buying a reliable shoe that will last for years and one that looks extremely styley.
