4 months to go, and NYJ is over so all i want to hear is hype for this jam, mmmkay??

POST WHAT COMPS YOU WANT TO DO IF YOURE GOING. the jam will have a 5 dollar general admission fee, 10 dollars if youre going to compete in 1 or more events, cash prize for circle, and bag prizes for most competitions.

If there's enough interest I suggest we do Ten and/or Request Contest.

Thoughts?

Sooooo is that a yes from Johnny Suderman?

We'll just publicize your attendance anyway and if you don't show up we'll just act as shocked and appalled as everyone else....

Hey everyone, Johnny Suderman's gonna be there!

i think i'll be there.

you should add Request and 2-square, and maybe have Routine as a demo (not judged) for players that would like to do it.

were DEFINITELY having 2/4 squares (there is a ready-made court across the street from my house, where a lot of people will be crashing. we could do that as a seperate little tourney if people want to, or just casual play.

definitely non-judged routines (i'll be doing one myself, i think)
and i dont know shit about Request.

speaking of which i better either brush up on my rules for the jam, or start delegating other people to do so.

also were DEFINITELY going to boston bowl saturday between shred and the party. again, they have bowling (tenpin and candlepin), pool, an arcade, 2 small batting cages, and extremely expensive food and beer.

im starting to work on an itinerary, i'll post it when im done.

YO! hype, son!

pff, 2 months will just flyyyyy by

outsider gave me some EXCELLENT advice that i intend to follow to the letter regarding delegation of tasks.
definitely try to delegate out certain tasks or projects in their entirety. That is, if you've got a couple of footbag homeys up there to help, and they're willing to help, you should ask them to commit to at least one major project each -- like, "You're gonna be in charge of handling all music: we must have tunes to play too at all times and music must be handled for competition: you must take on this task and be ready to do all that without referring back to me repeatedly on the days of the event."
i was already planning on delegating some stuff (ben little is tall, so he'll be in charge of collecting money and keeping the riff-raff out), but the most important point he made is that the person needs to handle every aspect of the task theyve been assigned without my incredible hands-on decision making there at every little turn.

yup, things are coming together nicely.

i decided first place in weird 1 and Rippin' Run is gonna get an old laver of mine signed by pretty much whoever the coolest/most famous footbaggers are that come to the jam as a trophy. plus probably whoever wants to...

Bruce Dole of NYFA has generously offered to sponsor the jam with his handiwork, which has been displayed at both of the NYFA tournies ive been to, his work is excellent and his offer is GREATLY appreciated.

im going to email/call red bull ASAP to see if they'll send a couple of those hottie red bull girls down with some of their brew.

MORE INVALUABLE WISDOM FROM THE INCOMPRABLE JON SCHNEIDER:
(on the topic of delegating, especially in the area of judges:
So, there will probably be two or three or more willing volunteers, but it can be tough to put that little panel of judges together at the last minute when you just want to get on with the competition, and your competitors are ready to go but also busy playing or wandering off in search of food or other substances... So, its good to have your judging volunteers sorted in advance.
One last thing -- Pro players who are competing can judge intermediate events, and vice-versa, as long as you allow real time in-between intermediate and pro events for the pros to play and warm up after having been sitting down and judging for a while. This may not be feasible if you are expecting any sort of audience and want to just run from one event right into the next event for the sake of keeping your audience watching. In other words, competitors can also be judges, but its better if you just have some non-competitors to do the judging instead. That does not mean they have to be non-players; just non-competitors.
so if you think you are attending the jam, think you are qualified to be a judge, and are willing, feel free to shoot me and email/PM if i havent sent one to you already. and if i havent, i probably will. dont worry, there will be a judging table, complete with chairs :P

thats about it for now...

colin kennedy is 95% definite he will be there :P

maybe getting ahead of myself but just so people have some idea:

http://www.alcaponedowntown.com/pdf/Al_ ... nu__2_.pdf

check out this menu and tell me if you have a problem with it (im planning to pick whatever people want on the way to the party for saturday night. if you want to do a sit down place or your own thing, there are definitely going to be alternatives). but these are some of the best and cheapest subs in boston. its not joking when it says a 20" hot sub is 9$ with tax, and believe me, its more than enough for 2 people. the chicken parm is really good, the italian is good, the pizza is good, and its all cheap.

a rough schedule:

Friday:
6 PM to Late Dinner at my house for whoever's arrived already, casual shred

Saturday:
9 AM-10:30 AM breakfast (maybe eggs, toast, cereal, pancakes, fruit, etc)
11:00 AM warmups begin
12:00 PM very light lunch, mostly fruit, energy bars, snacks, etc
12:30 PM Intermediate Big 1, Sick 3
12:45 PM Open Big 1, Sick 3, Rippin' Run
1:30 PM Intermediate Circle
2:00 PM Open Weird 1, "10," and OPEN CIRCLE
3:00 PM Casual shred across street until 5-6 PM
3:00 PM Routines
4:00 PM 2/4 Squares Comp
5-6:00 PM Subs/Pizza from Al Capone's at my place, approx. $5 per person
6:00 PM Boston bowl for bowling/pool/arcades
8:00 PM Head to Fran's apt for players party, Competition winners announced, Prizes awarded!

Sunday
Up by 12:00, light breakfast of whatever
12:30 PM head downtown by car/train for downtown shred on common
2 PM-rest of day probably lunch in food court downtown, sight-seeing, shred around downtown, possibly Northeastern, etc

SUBJECT TO CHANGE, open to suggestions

ev'ryone continue to check the first post for updates with crash space, party details, competitions, etc

I'm not sure I can make it, but if I do the main event I'd want to compete in is routines. If Open circle happens after routines, I'll do both. If routines is after circle, I'd only compete in routines. That said, I don't even know if I'm going yet, but I thought I'd throw that out there as my vote.

I'm scratching myself off the list. With the chance to move to Hawaii later on in the year, I'm giving up traveling around this summer in order to save up my green backs to make Hawaii a reality.

sucks guy.

updates-

routines will be held BEFORE Open Circle, since there will be less that 5 people doing routines, most likely, i figured it wouldnt be a big deal to move that up, as it doesnt really affect anything.

and added to friday night festivities at my house will be Yahtzee, Scrabble, and whatever other games people want to bring/play.
