Chicago New Year's Jam 2009
10th Annual New Year's Jam
And Midwest Regionals
December 27 & 28
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Event Info
Holiday Sports Festival
New Years jam is once again part of Mayor Daley's Holiday Sports Festival at McCormick Place, a giant convention center just south of Chicago's scenic downtown.
In the years past we've had tons of kickers from all over North America and even the Czech Republic. Czech out the threads:
NYJ 2008
NYJ 2007
NYJ 2006
NYJ 2005
Accomodations
Hyatt Regency McCormick Place hotel (312-567-1234)
The convention center & the hotel are attached by a tunnel, its like living in the future. Just wake up and walk on over through the hotel.
The discounted rooms are sold out! That means rooms are $109/night (either two twin beds or one king bed, each room usually ends up holding around six footbaggers). One more thing about accomodations - there is not going to be a CIC suite this year. Please plan accordingly.
There is also crash space before and after the event for those who need it. Send a PM to Reile (The Actual Sized E) or myself if you're interested. We probably can't accomodate every single person who gets in on December 26, so its a good idea for a lot of people to stay in the hotel the night before.
Directions
If you're flying in, you'll either be landing at O'Hare or Midway airport. Public transit will take you to McCormick Place, here are directions:
O'Hare: Blue line train to Jackson, walk to Michigan, #3 King Bus (southbound)
Midway: Orange Line train to Roosevelt, walk to Michigan, #3 King Bus (southbound)
Most trains (like Amtrak & Metra) and buses (like Greyhound and Superbus) arrive at Union Station, if that's what you're in to:
Union Station: take the #7 or the #126 bus on Jackson to Michigan Avenue, transfer to #3 King Drive or #4 Cottage Grove bus.
Events
Open Routines
Sunday December 27 - 1pm
Please have your routine music turned in to Scott's booth by 12:30, and any heads up on planning to enter routines would be appreciated.
Music format - please bring your song on an iPod. If this is an obstacle, pm me & I'll see if I can get the song on my iPod.
Intermediate Routines/Circle
Sunday December 27 - Shred Room
We'll either do routines or circle depending on interest of the participants, please sign up at the event booth that day & let us know which one you want to do - we'll do whichever event has more interest.
Open Circle
Monday December 28 - 1pm
Sign up any time before 12:30 the day of the event
Other Comps
Monday December 28 - Shred Room
If anyone wants to do request, sick 1 or sick 3, or other inventive new formats, this is the best time to do them.
Of course if there's time and interest to run other quick competitions, we can probably squeeze those in. But its only a two day event so we have to cut back on what we can try to do.

"Footbag can be pretty frustrating when it's supposed to be fun. I was partly driven by this forum - practice, practice, practice... As that is true, I think someone can be too focused on progressing and training that they miss the fun aspect of it." - Bander87

The event will only be 2 days long this year. More info to follow... Official dates are: December 27th and 28th. City of Chicago website: http://www.explorechicago.org/city/en/t ... liday.html
There will be footbag freestyle routines as an event (unless a minor miracle happens and gets us an ideal site for early November for 25th annual Midwest Regionals), plus at least one other freestyle event. There will be consecutive kick contests for newer players, and possibly a net invitational event. More info later...
See ya!
