EDIT: totally forgot the biggest highlight from the session! The community centre wants to put up a plaque to honour our donations! We went with “Footbag Association of Toronto” (as opposed to our individual names). This is for a rec room in the basement which they also said that we could use basically any time (for example on a day when the main hall/gym is in use by other groups)! We basically set for life. How incredibly fortunate for us and generous of them
That is very cool! Congratulations! Please post a photo.

Cool in comics, cool in footbag

That's one amazing TPP. Man, really love that. Good choice of a blog to do it in too, given Erik's affinity for comics.

Thanks for the Moebius, Asmus. Good idea about taking a picture of the plaque. Dunno when we’ll be back next though. I guess potentially a rain day. Also, good call Ken. Definitely appropriate for my blog.

20x20 session #30:
I dunno. Not much to say. It was windy and there were lots ofloud kids. Mike and I were having a frustrating session, I think because of those factors.
A run with double spinning clipper bsos
Threw in some harder whip tricks because my physiotherapist wanted me to push harder. Not much really other than the 20x20.
Oh, one run with blurriest, step, blurry, and spinning whip bsos? Maybe gyro dlos too?

I've always imagined someday I'll go to the doctor with knee problems and describe footbag, and they'll say, "Yeah...stop doing that." Strange that yours actually recommends more dexing.

SO MUCH PHYSIO
I'm so thankful I found this physiotherapist.
I've had them before where they acted more like I expected and didn't really understand footbag, or go out of their way to try to understand.
But this one not only fixed my other achilles issue, but also went and looked up my footbag videos on YouTube just out of genuine interest outside of her work hours. She looks like J-Lo to boot. So pretty. She asked me which tricks were aggravating and then told me to do more of them so that I can gauge more precisely where and what is causing me issues.

The biggest problem with physio recently is that I've been struggling with back pain and also shin splints, especially now that we're outdoors and playing on concrete after a whole season on dance floors! So I haven't been able to push as much as she wants :(

Actually, on that note I had an appointment with a shoulder specialist today that didn't go as well as I'd hoped. I was hoping to get an anti-inflammatory shot that would last a few months and allow me to strengthen my shoulder without pain, but the doctors decided that I shouldn't have it because it can cause damage and the issue with my shoulder isn't serious enough. So I have to now add shoulder physio exercises every day to what I'm doing for my ankle. So much work. My poor body.

20x20 session #31:
Had a run with bedwetter > pixie whip BSOS, as the only attempt at either of those tricks all session. Did some bigger tricks also, but without Maciej here there's nobody to understand what I'm doing, so it kind of lowers the motivation I have to push harder, which kinda sucks. Did blurrier > ripwalk > blurriest > ripwalk > blurrier > ripwalk, just missing the last blurriest, on one try. What else, mobiuses BSOS... some nice longer runs with some good tricks and density. Nothing super special. Bling blang BSOS for the first time in ages -- flip blazing still aggravates my bad ankle. Rev tomahawk > ps whip BSOS first try... lots of spinning whips. I dunno. Most of this felt okay on my ankle, which was nice. Mostly holding back because of my back pain still :( Been doing yoga for it every day for the past about 2 weeks, but still not back to normal... Oh yeah, something else I'm trying to rehab simultaneously... So broken... But at least I can play!! Super thankful <3

EDIT: Oh yeah, also did fog > dimwalk [repeat] first try, which felt nice since I mentioned last time I wanted to get that back. Tried to drill a lot of pixies too, since I've let those atrophy... Felt pretty successful. More of that to come.

20x20 session #32:
The new guy came out again, yay! Mike had an extra pair of Lavers on him in his size, so he got to try them out and I also gave him a bag so he can practice on his own now. Good stuff.

The session itself was pretty bad for me, but managed my 20x20s, the last of which was a 92. Alex told me that some kid asked to film about halfway through and then gave up filming before I was even done lol. I ramped up the difficulty a bit and the new guy even noticed and was, like, "I noticed you're doing a lot of different tricks than usual!", so that's neat.
-spinning whip > ps whip repeat
-double spinning clipper BSOS and then spinning ducking clipper > spinning whip BSOS
-spenders felt okay, so I may try flip gangsta next session

Not much else, but glad my body is starting to feel a bit better :)

Thanks Mathieu :)
I gave it a handful of tries after a super exhausting session. Should probably practice flip blenders more -- I can't open up the dex enough because that's my bad hip. But I'll hit it at some point. Will probably just throw a few casual attempts every few sessions and see what happens. Not a trick I ever plan to school. Just want to hit it once flip. Haha.

20x20 session #33:
Today was our first super humid outdoor session of the seasons. It was killer and we were all suffering in stamina. Seriously. I almost gave up on 20x20, but I've trained Alex and Mike to end the session only once I've hit them :p So when Alex asked a few times I was, like, "Yeah, okay, I'll do them." One was a 60 > hand catch. One was a 37 with rev mullet BSOS midstring, and some other good stuff in that same run. Those are the most painful. I get a lot of 19s :'D

New guy came out yet again! I'm super impressed. His ability is really improving every session too!
Oof, I think I may've killed myself -- struggling with ab pain an hour after the session. Ouch ouch. yeah, mostly I almost gave up on 20x20 because my back was super raw, exacerbated by the stamina drain.

Uh, in terms of other pain, my bad ankle felt perfect and I didn't feel like I had to hold back on anything! So next up i may get my magical J-Lo physiotherapist to work my back and get that sorted for once! Otherwise, just having fun and enjoying being able to play :) Too bad Mike was having a really frustrating session with his recent switch from G-Units to Lavers. He was having a bad day.

K, that's all.

Great this guy is coming out regularly, it's awesome when someone starts sticking with it. It seems you guys have pretty regular sessions so I imagine it's easy enough for him to pop by.

I had a couple of (failed) attempts at the 20x20 recently, but I had to stop because I was getting so many 19s or 39s and it was driving me mad.

Yeah, it is great.
We're a little unsure if we're giving him too much feedback/info, or maybe not enough? Or like the right amount. Hard to find that balance. But we obviously haven't scared him too much. And it sounds like he's eager to come out again next week, though he asked if we could change the day, so we're considering that, even though it'd be an inconvenience for all 3 of us.

Actually, we also had a girl reply to our pinned regular session post saying that she wanted to come out today, but couldn't and will try for another upcoming. Who knows.

Lol, yeah, I definitely hit at least 10 19s per session. Just get complacent on that last trick. But I'm getting a bit better at waiting until AFTER the 20 (if I'm a couple contacts away) to push something more difficult.

20x20 session #34:
Almost completely forgot, since it's been a few hours since the session, but I hit flip gangsta party. It probably only took me like 10 tries? Haha, felt a little anti-climactic, since I was expecting to have to try for many sessions, and since they were pretty casual attempts. Ah well. Checked off the list :'D Actually Maciej kept telling me that flip was close, but it felt further off to me. Guess he was right.

I had a run with 20 whips BSOS. I think that was a 60-contact to hand catch. That may be at least my flipside record for it? Will have to check the spreadsheet. May have done 20 far whips too, but I forget...
Had a run with gyro DLO BSOS, stepping whip > ps whip BSOS, spinning ducking clipper > spinning whip BSOS? Something like that?
One with blurriest and pixie paradon both BSOS?
More BSOS rev mullets and rev whirlygigs... Dunno if anything out of the ordinary. Oh one run with a gravedigger and other side mobius?
Double spinning clipper BSOS as per usual.
Was having a really frustrating session overall, but it picked up a bit near the end.
Had some environmental frustrations that were really bogging me down.
Oh, also threw a few janiwalkers down in, like, 2 tries! That felt amazing.
Couldn't quite do flip -- still aggravates my bad ankle.

COMPILATION VIDEO
Oh, I keep forgetting to say this, but I actually went and sat down to work on my "Best of Erik Chan" video, with the actual source files. But when I went to turn on my old lappy, it was doing this weird start-up thing and wouldn't let me boot Windows. I'm not super tech savvy, so I'm not sure how to circumvent this, but the files are on there! I'll take drastic measures if it's continues to not work further down the line. Like get some store to backup my hard drive and reformat or something... But, I'm still stoked to eventually get that done at full quality :) Especially since I'm definitely past my peak. Feels neat to watch what I used to be able to do.

If you are past your peak and hitting flip gangsta party, you're definitely doing something right! Sounds like you're playing well lately. Great you are getting more and more interest.

Best of video probably won't be for a while, but it's always on my mind. I'm excited for it too!

20x20 session #35:
I think I played pretty well today. Back was feeling super weak, but ankles are mostly good. And I have an appointment to start physio for my back in a couple weeks. Stoked to finally address that. Next up once I fix my back is my hip/groin, which was my very first injury that was never resolved. That's why I can't do tricks like drifters and atomic on one side. That injury was in 2004 I think. Man, so long ago. But also, how do you get physio done on your groin by a super pretty physiotherapist? Haha. I had a male athletic therapist work on it ages ago when it first came up and he did ultrasound and massage on it... Oh well, I guess we'll see.

New trick today in, like, 5 tries? Flip symp torque. Felt cool to hit so easily. That was one that I was putting off on flipside because of the bad ankle, so it's satisfying to catch up. Hmm... what else. Oh, 23 far whips, which is hilarious because my previous documented record was 10, but my ps whip record is like 21 from years ago. Haha.

-a run with motion BSOS (dropped on a locomotion?)
-a run with far symp swirl and near symp swirl both BSOS, dropped on a butterfly swirl
-a blurry reaper first try, dropped on BSOS
-a locomotion
-a run with diving symp whip > rev mullet BSOS?
-3x symp whip > 3x far symp whip [repeat]
-rev whirlwind and rev mullet both BSOS?
-blur > dimwalk x10
-at least two 60 contact runs to hand catch

And other stuff probably, I guess. I felt that I played quite well and was able to push quite a bit without too much pain. Mostly back pain. But you know at this point in my career it's very rare to have a session with no pain whatsoever. I'm still just thankful that I can play at all :)

Mike was having a really frustrating session in his new Lavers. Alex seemed to be playing on average with some good stuff in there.

Some big tricks in there. How about stepping ducking motion? Or spinning ducking. Butterfly swirl is a really fun tricks, I've been doing that a bit lately.

Thanks Daniel (do you prefer Dan?)!
Lol, you give me way too much credit. But I did keep these requests in mind and tried motion sickness. I was close, but didn't really feel like trying too much. One side is significantly stronger than the other on that trick! I can crank my good osis a lot better than my flip (my "flip" gangsta was actually my good osis...). No dice, but definitely feasible like in the next couple sessions with some casual attempts. Stepping ducking and spinning ducking are far off... maybe spinning ducking... Have you hit leviathan?

20x20 session #36:
Today was our first session of the season at the harbourfront. This location has a nice breeze, is in the touristy area of the city, but most importantly it's a wooden plank boardwalk and I could immediately feel how much easier it was on my body. Like I could crank up the intensity a notch because of it. It felt great, we had lots of people stop and get excited, and I played probably the best of the season so far?? I felt spot on. 20x20 was done early on in the session, but I did keep doing some longer runs at the end to give Mike a break -- it was just the 2 of us since Alex is shredding with Cass, Derek, and the Detroit crew this weekend. Mike wanted to end the session on a 20, since he was still frustrated with his new shoes, and I decided to go for a 100. I hit a 96 and then started laughing because I started drooling right at the end. Totally could've hit those 4 extra contacts, but felt silly. It was pretty dense, low-BOP, and on just the 3rd try. The other 2 tries were like a 30 and 40?

What else, I footed blurriest > blurrier [repeat] on the first and second tries (I've only hit it once before). Felt easy. WTF. the wooden surface really makes all the difference!! Thought I'd try a blurriest record too, but decided, no, I'll wait until I have the camera with me before trying that in case I get a good run and never get it again... Also hit blurriest > spinning clipper > blurriest > gyro clipper [repeat] in 1 try. Much easier than the stepping variant.

I pulled up my tricks spreadsheet at work and marked down some tricks that I've never hit flipside, and managed a few:
-symple near twist, set from toe
-near twist, set from toe
-spinning ducking symp butterfly

I think that was it for new tricks.
I also thought I'd try consecutive ducking osii. Osis tricks are hard! I only hit 7 good side, and 5 flip. Flip was so out of control. Lol. Really need to work more osis tricks. Hmm... what else. Maybe that was it? Just felt really on my game overall. Would've pushed harder if I had my camera out too, though assumed I'd take it easier today and do longer easier runs because it was just going to be the 2 of us. Ah well. May as well just bring camera every session just in case. And definitely sessions on the boardwalk.

SOLO
Oh, saw Solo last weekend. Absolutely loved it.
The consensus seems to be that harder-core Star Wars fans appreciated it a lot more than casual fans. I wish I could say a bit more about what I thought, but it would include spoilers. I just thoroughly enjoyed it. I went in with super low expectations only expecting to enjoy Lando, but it turned out the opposite, being a bit disappointed by him and absolutely loving everything else (mostly) about it. You definitely need to have experienced more than just the films to have fully appreciated this one. They finally started pushing the boundaries beyond just callbacks to the original trilogy and it finally paid off to have watched all of the animated series and otherwise delved into the deeper lore. I guess that's about all I can say.

Oh, also, had this track stuck in my head for weeks. Playing on repeat every day at work. Definitely want to do a hack video to it soon (before I'm sick of it ideally, lol) :

20x20 session #37:
Duo session with Mike again. Looks like Alex is too busy with school work until end of next week, and maybe not even then. Had a pretty good session, but Mike was struggling again. Trying to give flip clipper and osis advice, which he's struggling with in his new shoes.

The funnest thing I did all session I think was gyro whip > gyro DLO. I really need to do more gyro whips. Never really thought to do that, but the change in spinning direction makes this link so much more fun than spinning whip > gyro DLO!! Couldn't quite BSOS it, but it was right at the end of the session anyway and the wind. Wow. The wind was something fierce. There was a mini storm in the middle of the day that took out some trees in the park. Crazy. And it was so loud we could barely hear our music.

I did jot down some new tricks to try and got quite a few all both sides:
-gyro symple swirl
-knee-kick-set DLO (both near and far)
-- done some of these before, but not sure which
-weaving illusion (both clip and toe)
-nuclear clipper (both near and far)
-- again probably done some of these before, but not all
-pdx eggplant
-pogo toe stall (both near and far)
-pogo inside stall (both near and far)

Was that it? That's 32 tricks I think. Not bad.

I think the highlight of the session was ducking clipper > spinning whip x10, second try. To hand catch too... I always regret not just doing more when I do that. Haha, ah well. But that felt so good. Quintuple BSOS! The trick was to just set them a lot lower. I should probably do that in general. Usually when I miss that trick it's because I've set too high.

Only put a handful of attempts into motion sickness again, but again at the end of the session, and the wind was messing me. I'll just continue to throw a few tries each session.

E3 GAMES
Ahh, so many great games coming out of E3 this week! It's still going, so I think I'll wait until my Friday session post to go more in-depth, but the 3 games I'm most stoked on so far are all samurai-themed action-adventure/RPGs:
-Ghost of Tsushima
-Nioh 2
-Sekiro
Sekiro is the new game by the Dark Souls team (my favourite video game hands down), but Ghost of Tsushima looks sooo gorgeous and more story-driven, so currently, based on what we've seen, that's my #1 newly revealed game. Obvs, Nioh 2 is a Souls-like, and I'm excited for that too. But I still have to finish the last 2 DLCs of Nioh 1. Should get on that -- great game! Lots of other games that've been announced previously, like Death Stranding (by the director of the Metal Gear Solid games), Last of Us 2, Elder Scrolls 6 (oh I guess that was newly announced this week)... Anyway, will prolly blather on more about these on Friday. I really like looking back on previous years' footblog posts seeing which games I was excited about, so even if I'm the only one who cares, I'm still gonna blather :p
EDIT:
Image

Actually, I’ve been playing LA Noire a lot on my lunch breaks at work. I had it on PS3 years ago but got stuck, because I found the interrogation difficult. But it’s been super fun to get back at, love how story-driven it is, and it’s just a perfect fit for Switch on the go. Really have a blast playing through a half or full case wherever I feel like it.

EDIT: Oops, gyro symple swirl wasn't new. Everything else was though as far as my spreadsheet says.

I define myself a gamer, but pretty much no games capture my interest for a very long time, I'm stuck with retro games, diablo series, and recently only Cuphead took my attention, pretty good challenging game so far

nice new tricks, if you're into pogo how about pogo blur- pixie ss simple swirl, an old link a swiss friend tought me years back

Let's talk games! What are your favourites? Like recent favourites and all-time favourites? What did you think of Breath of the Wild? I bought my switch basically exclusively as a $500 Zelda machine, and I didn't regret it at all. I've tried Zelda games in the past and just couldn't stand them, but absolutely loved BOTW. Always wanted to try Windwaker, but it was only on... Wii-U? Or Gamecube or something? I'm not buying one of those. Lol.

I loved Cuphead, though like I said in a post a few pages back, I got interrupted by my lappy needing to be reformatted and never picked it up again. Absolutely loved it and got about halfway through though. I wasn't a huge Diablo fan, but played quite a bit of 2 and a taste of 3. Never finished either. In terms of retro games, I've been meaning to do a playthrough of Super Contra. I loved that game growing up, but only ever beat it with the game genie...

20x20 session #38:
So Mathieu sent me a message like... last night or this morning? Saying that he did 20x20 in under 25 minutes. I took that as a challenge and said I'd try to beat it. But having never timed myself or tried rushing it, I had no idea how quickly I could do it, especially since Mathieu solos and I play in a circle of 3 and never solo. I thought that would be an added level of challenge. Turns out it probably helped, since I would probably break that long anyway, and then having people there watching gave me the extra push to actually work hard at it. I hit my timer after the first run, which was a 40 (so you could add 40-ish seconds onto my time), but I got 19:03 minutes! I just took a screenshot of my timer and sent it to Mathieu :p Not as good runs as his, my best was an 80, I think, and I had 3 20s, but the rest where 60 or 40. Not too bad. And 19 minutes is fast! It felt like the session was over, but it hadn't even been half an hour, when we usually go 1.5-2 hours!

My legs were rubber after, but I played super well after, like maybe better than last session, which I thought was my best to date of the season! And dammit, I brought the camera, but figured because I'd be too tired from the 20x20 race that I wouldn't get much good stuff. K next time I'm filming regardless! Didn't think to do any new tricks, but will try to recap some highlights:
-rev whirlwind BSOS, rev whirlygig BSOS, dropped right after one rev mullet
-ended the session on food BSOS, which I haven't done in ages (like even just the trick alone)
-lots of my typical stuff like a run with stepping whip > ps whip BSOS, spinning ducking clipper > spinning whip BSOS, and gyro whip BSOS same run?
-lots of blurriests, but kept dropping the second blurriest when trying to BSOS pixie paradon and blurriest. I think also couldn't quite BSOS blurriest and blurrier. I think partly because of rubber legs
-mostly high-intensity/difficulty, but shorter contact runs after the 20x20

E3
So it seems like a few smaller games are still being announced near the end of the week, but most of the bigger triple-A titles are all announced. So the ones I'm most excited for are:
1) Ghost of Tsushima (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSAvzeopPC8&t=185s)
2) Sekiro (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OgoTZXPACo)
3) Death Stranding (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOdZvUGnGeI)
4) Elder Scrolls 6

5) The Last of Us 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btmN-bWwv0A)
6) The Division 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdPlH5RE_WU)
7) Nioh 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEQsYqMeeYk)
8 ) Days Gone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUlygQlVayQ)

The top 4 I'm super excited for, the last 4 quite a bit less-so, but want to play at some point. Lol these are almost all either post-apocalyptic or feudal Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima just looks so gorgeous. Check out that duel scene at the end with the gorgeous sunset and falling leaves... man. It reminds me of Uncharted games, where every single scene, regardless of cutscene or gameplay, is just so incredibly photogenic everywhere you look.

Sekiro is just a must-play for me because it's by the Dark Souls team. It sounds super different though, and I'm unsure how I feel about that so far. Not enough details about that one yet.

Death Stranding... most people are saying part of the appeal is that we know nothing about it. Other than the fact that it stars Norman Reedus (Walking Dead) and Mads Mikkelson (Rogue One, etc). Guillermo Del Toro even may be making some cameos (he was in previous trailers). The main draw is that it's by Hideo Kojima, who is the director of the Metal Gear games, probably my other favourite all-time series. So, again, a must-play for that reason alone. But looks super pretty also.

Elder Scrolls 6... Just, take my money. But probably a few years off still. There was a teaser, but it shows absolutely nothing so I didn't even link it.

The Last of Us 2... I really liked the first one, but it certainly didn't grab me like it seemed to grab everyone else who was saying it was the best game of the generation and one of the best of all time. The story was great, but I felt that the gameplay was pretty simple and repetitive. But 2 looks amazing in terms of graphics and story. There was another previous trailer that was super brutal and violent and got some serious mainstream media criticism.

The Division 2. I really enjoyed the first one, but never finished it. It's basically an MMO, but I don't like playing with others, so I played it solo up to a certain point where you basically needed others to progress, and I just stopped. I hope 2 is better for PVE, but third-person action-RPGs are my jam and this one is really interesting. It's strange how if it was first person I would immediately have zero interest in it. Like how I feel about Cyberpunk 2077, unfortunately. But also I'm more a fantasy guy over sci-fi to begin with.

Nioh 2. Just more of the same, I'm expecting. It was a really fun game that I was totally engrossed with, and played about 3 times through, but once the DLC had come out, I'd lost interest and never went back (especially since it's a Souls-like and the combat is just slightly different, so as ingrained as Souls combat is in my muscle-memory, those single like button swaps just throw me off even thinking about.

Days Gone... Just looks like a really good game. Probably similar to Last of Us 2, it seems, but maybe less story-driven?

EDIT: Oh, actually, add Sable to the list. Looks really interesting... Like a cross between Journey and Borderlands... Oh, also, the thumbnail for this video looks a lot like Asmus' top post pic by Moebius!

That's awesome to get it so fast! I am a long way off doing that...How many times did you have non-20 contact runs in that 20 minutes? I'm guessing not very many.

Thanks Daniel!
No runs less than 20, I don't think!
Looking at the numbers now, that's faster than 20 contacts per minute 8O

Wait. Let me rephrase. Every turn around I hit at least 20+, but there were probably 2-3 failed attempts, like, I get 7 contacts and drop, but pick up again and get 20+. Another good thing was that most drops were shortly after an interval of 20, as opposed to at 39 or 57 or something. So that helped also. It felt very efficient.
