Worlds 2020: Top 8 Shred Offs

Post by C-Fan » 17 Jul 2020 17:14

Not all of the pairings are up yet, but they should be soon. For now I'll post the pairings I've found on YT.

First up is Pawel vs. Ken:

Oooh ken and pawel is gonna be harder to decide then i tought
But pawel trick selection seems less varied and shorter runs, some massive stuff tough
Interesting
Taishi gave it all but dom is just too good and seems unstopable
Keeping rafal and peter for later view, bed time!

I have seen Pawel's, but not Ken's yet. That being said, I agree that Pawel had some massive stuff, but not necessarily long runs. Gonna watch Ken's now.

Yeah not sure Taishi has a shot here. I wonder if we are starting to see ceilings for some of the competitors, or if they are still holding back?

Just watched Ken's. Wow, him and Pawel are close for sure. Not sure how I would judge. I do know I would have to watch them both many times before making the call. I did notice that Ken added some tricks that you often see Pawel do (six-add, motion-based... I think it was locomotion, or maybe pixie motion, can't remember). I think that is a good strategy.

Dante vs. Worek

Post by C-Fan » 18 Jul 2020 03:59

I agree that Dominik beats Taishi, but I don't think that's a shock to anybody including Taishi. Dominik has looked like the favorite in this event since the very first video, and honestly anybody paired up against him would be a massive underdog. Props to Taishi for all the good videos; no shame in a loss here.

I also agree that Pawel vs. me is very close. Props to Pawel for stepping up and making a crazy video. Also a bit of props to me, as less than a week ago I wasn't sure if I was going to scratch this round or mail it in. Regardless of who wins this matchup, the "loser" should feel proud of their entry.

I can confirm this was an intentional strategy I employed. I knew Pawel would throw a lot of dyno/motion stuff so I wanted to at least show the judges that I could do 6 add motion variants sealed with fives/sixes myself. I also tried to use sets (furious, whirling) and downtime components (flurry, revup, paradon swirl) Pawel was unlikely to use. That said, I wouldn't fault the judges with going either way. It does feel close to me.

And here is the final pairing in this round:

Dominik is something else, that variety and difficulty 8O

I love that the bricks in the center of the area he's playing in look like they have been worn down by all the footbag

How does it work now? Is it a 1 v 1 battle, or everyone does their thing and gets a ranking?

The Pride of Modified

Doing modified proud

When Modified changed domain and became Modified.IN, I remember a banner was created and added to the rotation that had a green silhouette of India and the words: "Modified. The pride of India" on it. That always made me laugh for some reason and I immediately thought of it when I read your words.

I really need to start filming for Shred Off finals. I don't have any illusions about winning it or anything, but I also don't want to completely embarrass myself either. Hopefully I can push super hard over the next few days and then take a well-deserved break after that.

Ah yes, I remember that too. In fact, since this is on my server, I will talk with Daniel about finding that logo and maybe adding it back into a rotation...
