-=Saturday August 3rd, 2024=-

Some brand new promo photos of my headliner juggling show (coming Spring 2025) up on my insta. See what I'm up to:
https://www.instagram.com/jordenmoirjuggler/

My motivations are:
- to win the Juggling world championships again (they like the footbag)
- to win a Gold Clown in the Circus World Championships (they like insane technique and novelty; and they've seen all the other kinds of juggling!)
- become a full time performer (cruise ships, circuses, TV, festivals, etc.)
- some other top secret stuff

Footbag Session #7 coming tomorrow.

Been busy working demolition construction to get by and to fund the juggling show.
Yes, I see the job choice irony. :)

So, a couple weeks ago the YMCA I was filming at had a fire and is temporarily closed. :?
On Sunday I tried out the other YMCA in my city and a Karen employee kicked me out of the yoga studio before I could start the session. Sigh.

Who won Worlds? Where is the best place to stay up to date on the sport's happenings - on a site that doesn't illegally sell private data?
Sad to see that in the 2 Worlds routines posted on YouTube zero people were in the background. What was THAT all about?

Session #7 incoming.

Highlights:
eggbeaters, downtime gyro toes are BACK
both voodoos
atom smasher b2b
motion sickness
double tapping mirage!
both frankensteins :D

Wanted to make a couple comments on Worlds. Overall what I've seen is ok.
Some things I've noticed:

Sick 3 that is timed instead of based on a set number of attempts was a bad idea.
What is the benefit in getting players to rush when doing combos of difficult moves? WHY?
Where the organizers running behind in the events? Is anyone surprised it was a dropfest?
Do you play better when you go at your own pace, or someone is giving you a countdown? Yeah, obviously.

Some events have it where each player has 5 attempts. What's wrong with this?
Give them 5 minutes or something. Nobody will take that long, and if they do, then give a countdown.
Rotating people in and out looks sloppy and makes everyone ungrounded. Let them enter the flow state.

Battles are cool and a step in the right direction. Probably better than Circle because half the players don't have their backs to the audience.
Obscures the view of the action. I think footbaggers should be discouraged from giving props to the other player to make it more of a rivalry. Niceness looks weird. :P

Not really a fan of whoever plays it the most safe wins Routines. Imagine if in figure skating, everyone played it safe and focused on PERFECT double jumps and avoided TRIPLES and QUADS. Would be pretty boring, right? Drops in footbag are weighted too heavily against. I've always said this. It's not as if the person fell down. There needs to be mandatory elements in sequence that build in difficulty. The loose framework causes players to meander when they perform, causing too many repeated moves and easy sequences need the end, leading to a loss of excitement.

Also, 5 judging categories instead of 2 is better. Difficulty/Creativity/Presentation/Execution/Entertainment Value. Artistic Merit - what does that even mean? The judges come from sports - how do they know?

I think it should be in order to become BAP you gotta invent at least ONE move. Just sayin'.

Footbag session numba 9 coming to a YouTube near you.

- vortices
- fog BSOS
- both bedwetters
- baroque
- osires
- helicopter!
- stepping voodoo
- both hop twirls
- nuclear sets
-------------------------------------
I know my level isn't where it was yet, but I sincerely hope people are taking note on the structure of my trainings.
I don't know why over half the players "train" by obsessing over moves they can already do 10 times out of 10.
Then they wonder why they plateau so early and can only do 20% of the tricks! :?

Notice my slow but steady progression of tricks that goes kind of exponential. The warmup is built in and I don't have to run/skip, etc.
I sequence moves in rough order of difficulty and treat things like a checklist, not valuing any move over any other move. Mind like water.
Everything is as both sided as possible as to not create imbalance in the body. Focusing on the breath is key.

Once a category of move feels natural and is working well, I move on. Might test it in a drill later on, but there is no obsessiveness.
I guess it's a pride thing in some people, mastering random moves that are above their level then dwelling on them. Or learning all the easy moves and never pushing after that. In this day and age of evolution in all things, stagnating actually means moving BACKWARD!

My trainings are a series of incremental CHALLENGES. I never focus on "feel good" moves to boost ego or self esteem.
Plan and write out your goals for that day if you have to. What are the tricks and drills that are on the edge of your ability?

General rule is = work on the easiest moves that you cannot yet do! Then once you got them, slowly ramp up the consistency.
Swallow your pride.
--------------------------------------
Someone please post this advice on the Facebook pages. I think it's really important.

Shared on facebooks

I like your training method, personally i train in different ways as long as I have fun, sometimes its drilling one trick or combo, sometimes just playing with what I'm good at, sometines what I suck terribly, as long as it brings smiles and sweat, it' s good for me :)

Some definitions of the verb "to train" on dictionary.com:

"to give the discipline and instruction, drill, practice, etc., designed to impart proficiency or efficiency."
"to undergo discipline and instruction, drill, etc."

but also

"to get oneself into condition for an athletic performance through exercise, diet, practice, etc."

The first definition is the only one that really helps for getting better. Getting in shape does not lead to more consistent moves or learning new moves. Learning the muscle memory and repeating the moves does. Getting in shape helps with the entire process though.

What I do when I train - I don't see it as a method. It's the only organic option for becoming a more capable player.

We've stumbled upon something here. Some people use footbag as a creative outlet, like a canvas, and others' primary goal is fitness.
They appear to be conflicting goals.

"sometimes what I suck terribly" Careful with negative affirmations. It implies permanence and creates an anchor that hinders you needlessly. Why put limits on yourself? Better wording is "works in progress" or "not yet mastered", implying progress.

Hey!!!! Hell yeah welcome back!!! Amazing stuff!! I've been back playing since 2021 and seriously for about 6 months. Just topping where I was 2005 but nowhere close to what you're doing, you could be top three of active players in the world pretty quickly if you keep up your momentum! Who knows who else might put their lavers back on, so many top players not playing anymore.

And, equally astounding, my login worked! Holy crap. I can't believe I remembered the info first try!

Cheers to you! I hope you make a blank Facebook and just use it for our footbag activity there. You don't have to give them anything or install it on your phone to participate with us on there.

YouTube is also a very good way to stay in touch with us if you upload there some of us will see it on Facebook and comment and follow you and stuff on there. I'm sure there are very many of us excited to watch you play! And I'd really love to see a sesh of you with Dante Zach Derek and Cass assuming you're still in the Toronto area.

Peace ✌️

Hey Loren, WOW - cool to hear from you!

Yes, I'm near Toronto. Hamilton, which is one hour's drive to the south.

My plans are to reestablish myself as a top player, reach my ideal weight (lose maybe 25 pounds)
and become a force in the showbiz world with a rock solid hybrid beanbag act. I also do about 18 other short juggling and magic acts.
If anyone's wondering why I tend to keep to myself - now you know. I got A LOT on my plate!

In 6 months it's shipping time with all these projects.

Apparently there's talks of an Ontario jam in April.
Also, who wants to do a GRASS reunion for next year? :D

Last trick looks very similar to those blind back kicks a lot of the jianzi players do, though they are not in the air while doing it (guess some have probably done it while in the air). Looks like a fun session, lots of California Games inspiration. I've been doing some of these combos like the outside kick spin inside kick thing.

Hey Jorden, if you're still in the SW Ontario area, it would be sweet to play some footbag.
