Brocka Laver Mod
Brocka Laver Mod
Ok for those that have not seen it before here is the best pic I have seen.
Basically he cuts the padding out of the inside of the shoe down to the stiching and its supposed to increase the flex of your clippers. Now I have never noticed a problem with ankle flexibility and I tend to think what limits my flexability is my body and not my shoe. Do you people out there think this mod would actually help? does the padding interfere with stretching your ankle to its full potential???

okay i just tried this mod and it did help my clippers. usually i really have to crank my clippers to get them flat, because my ankle bones stick out a bit and catch on the shoe, not allowing my to flex it as much as i am capable of. with this mod i can crank my ankles past flat, which is helpful as i can lean and get off balace some times.

Similarly to the "Brockut," I have modified Milleniums In a similar manner, but with one additional mod: the canvas under the insole of the "stock" laver/millenium is cut out as well.
The combination of the two I call the "Mirk-cut."
I will have a little video of it in a few days I suppose, so you all can see what Ive done. Too bad it'll only help those with Milleniums. Wel, no actually laver buyers will be able to use this as well.

I pmed Webslinger about this mod and he told me none of the people he kicks with does this mod. He also told me he did not advise it unless my clippers were really bad. If honza, and vasek dont do this modification I dont think it is worth it either, look how much vasek cranks his ankle with out this mod, i believe it not needed but I may be proven wrong.

i tried it first on an older pair, and i liked it so much i did it on my newer pair too. I dont think it really helps with the DEGREE of crank, but it makes the cranking alot easier and more comfortable, which matters in my book. it also makes them slip on and off really easily.

no disrespect meant, but just because vasek or honza do or do not do some thing, doesn't mean it is set in stone as the way to go. i respect both of them very much for their talent, if they don't need it, great, but i know this mod helps me. plus, what's it gonna hurt to try it on an old pair of lavers? this mod could help you out alot. by never trying it you could be missing out... my 2 cents.

ok - i modded last night, then i played today... well i am very impressed with this mod and will continue to use it on ever pair of lavers i will own in the future, I thought i didnt need it cuz my ankels are pretty flexable already, but my osis, torques, and other tricks ending in that kind of delay were way more consistant (not as much roll-out).
jon - thanx for posting, great mod !!

just did it and I'd definitely recommend it, if only as a test on an old pair. If you have an old pair at least give it a try. I found that, as was said, osis and clipper moves saw less roll out. In addition, I think it improved my step so that I can set cleanly and straighter more consistently. Sometimes my foot would angle toward the ground a bit as the bag left my foot, causing unneccessary spin on the bag, leading to a more unpredictable set. Now my foot can stay flatter all the way through the set much more easily. I'll probably do this to my lavers from now on.

i did it a couple months ago, after peter brocka showed me at worlds... i like it a lot! basically you don't loose much support, cause you can tie your shoes much tighter than without the mod, without loosing ankle flexibility. of course, vasek and honza don't need that mod... just look at their clippers - especially vasek's. his ankles are so loose ( = fucked up, basically). this really is appreciated for freestyle (and i am jealous), but this kind of flexibility no doctor or orthopaedic would recommend... so it does make sense to have your shoe do some of the bending...
