List of past Euro/US champions
List of past Euro/US champions
USO is tomorrow, and I can't focus on anything else. As I was thinking about it, it kind of hit me: I can name the World champions going back as far as 1991, but I'm not sure about Euro or US champions. So I thought it'd be fun to assemble a list, for everybody's future reference. I'll start with what I know off the top of my head, and then maybe others can help fill in the gaps.

My "Official Rules of Footbag Sports - Eighth Edition" from 1997 has some very nice reference materials in it.
I'm going to list some past tournament results, and I'm going to give a little bit of explanation to go with them, because tournaments and events have not always been as they are now. Keep in mind, I wasn't there to see any of this so I'm only repeating what I think I remember hearing elsewhere -- you should not necessarily take my explanations as accurate.
----------------------------------
1980 - Mike Marshall Memorial (I'm guessing that this event is the best candidate for what would eventually become "Worlds", but I'm not sure...)
Apparently, they didn't yet have freestyle competitions - there was singles and doubles Net, and singles and doubles consecutives...
John Stalberger won singles net. Kenny Shults won singles consecutives.
-------------------------------------
1981 - Mike Marshall Memorial.
Stalberger won singles net again, and Gary Lautt won singles consecutives.
--------------------------------------
1982 - NHSA National Championships (I think "NHSA" was "National Hacky Sack Association"... not sure. -- It sounds like this "replaced" the Mike Marshall Memorial... not sure.)
There were freestyle competitions at this event. The results look a little funny -- let me explain -- I've heard that in earlier tournaments there was just ONE kind of freestyle competition, and you could enter that competition as an individual or as a team, and teams and individuals competed against each-other. So...
First Place Open Freestyle went to the team of Bruce Guettich and Greg Cortopassi.
Second Place went to Gary Lautt.
You could say that Gary won 1st Place in Singles, and Bruce & Greg were first place in doubles/team... Or, you could say that Gary took 2nd Place in Singles, and that there WAS NO FIRST PLACE in singles... I don't know. Its hard to compare, I guess.
(Kenny finally won Singles Net that year, btw).
---------------------------------------
1983 NHSA National Championships
Kenny Shults wins Singles Freestyle.
---------------------------------------
1983 WFA National Championships (apparently there were TWO National Championships in 1983, the NHSA national champs, and the WFA national champs... I don't know if one was considered bigger or better or more prestigious...)
Jack Schoolcraft won Singles Freestyle (Shults, Lautt & Jim Caveney won Team Freestyle).
---------------------------------------
1984 WFA National Championships
Andy Linder won Singles Freestyle.
---------------------------------------
1985 WFA National Championships
Kenny Shults won Singles Freestyle.
---------------------------------------
1986 WFA World Championships
Jon Lind won Open Singles Freestyle (I believe his name is pronounced "Yon" or like "Jan" as in Jan Zimmerman... not sure.)
----------------------------------------
1987 WFA World Championships
Kenny Shults won open singles freestyle.
----------------------------------------
1988 WFA World Championships
Rick Reese wins open singles freestyle.
----------------------------------------
1989 WFA World Championships
Kenny Shults wins open singles freestyle.
----------------------------------------
1990 WFA World Championships
Kenny Shults wins open singles.

Re: List of past Euro/US champions
Since this is a list of champions and not only tournament winners I think you should add that the European champions for the years when the tournament was won by Americans are:
2000 Justin Sexton
2001 Vasek
2010 Honza
So Vasek's streak is actually one year longer.
