Re: The Symposium Podcast: Episode 3A released!

Really enjoyed this one, perhaps even more than the other podcasts. Am I right in assuming that there's going to be a continuation of this particular conversation AKA more Littlefield dankness?

Yeah, I think I had close to 3 hours of audio from our conversation. I cut out large chunks of it for various reasons, but I was still left with about 1:45 of good content. Figured that was too long for a single pod, so I'm breaking it into 2. I'll probably do the second half of the Derek pod several episodes later, just to break it up and have more variety.

Yay!

Just started listening, up until the discussion of The Left Hand of Darkness. Starting reading up on the book, and got to a discussion of Androgyny on Wikipedia, with this nice connection to everything:

"Androgyny and homosexuality are seen in Plato’s Symposium in a myth that Aristophanes tells the audience."

Thanks for this! I think I will take this book with me to Japan, to read on the plane.

Aristophanes' story at the Symposium is one of the more fun ones. They used it in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which is also one of the best parts of that movie:

Not sure if you meant the Leguin book, or Plato's. Both are good, though the Leguin one is a lot more accessible.

Thanks for listening and commenting! I hope you liked the rest of the episode.

2 weeks late on this one...or you could consider the last scheduled release date to have been a bye week. Hopefully will get back on schedule now that the worst month of the year for travel for me is over. Since we're coming back after a long break, I decided to release a longer episode with better audio quality and editing, which is why we're releasing Episode 8 out of order.

Hope you enjoy our conversation with Kyle as much as I did!

Lots of challenges with audio quality on this one. I did the best I could, but at the end of the day there's only so much you can do when the source audio is rough. Hopefully the content is still entertaining.
