Discussion Forum Rules
Discussion Forum Rules
This forum is the least moderated forum on the board - so there are very few rules. However recently particular people may have mistaken this forum for the kicking circle and have been posting some un tolerated things.
These are what I think the general rules for this topic should be and these are what I moderate the topic based around. I can't speak for the other mods but I have confidence that they will back me up!
1. Don't post directly offensive posts without backing them up. For example if you feel the need to say something like "u suk u stoopid mooron" - (sic) then at least say why you think that it is. This is the discussion forum and it's very hard to discuss someones opinions if you don't actually give any information to discuss.
2. Don't waste our time with posts that are marginally related to the topic unless you give enough information to allow them to be discussed. If we are discussing the use of drugs and hash cake gets mentioned and you really feel the need to say "I like caek (sic)" then at least say why you like cake or else you are not actually part of the discussion at all. It's not about staying on topic or not. Anybody who has been involved in a real discussion with other functioning human beings will know that the subject of discussion doesn't stay the same - it often goes off on tangents - so I don't mind if topics go off topic. However if the topic is if you think "Bob" is a legitimate terrorist threat or not and somebody makes a post to say "my Dad's name is Bob" - and doesn't add anything else - it doesn't help the discussion at all and is just a waste of time. I usually delete those kinds of posts.
So please use your brain when posting

I just wanted to say that it seems to me that a number of people have been ignoring these rules recently. Nobody has been doing anything about it but it's annoying that people have such little respect for the forum. You may think it is funny to make stupid one line comments and sometimes it is - but it really isn't appropriate for this forum - especially if every post you make here is like that. This subforum is called "discussion" for a reason.
Thanks

I just wanted to clear something up because there seems to be some confusion.
As I say at the top of this topic - the discussion forum is largely unmoderated. As long as you post serious comments which are somehow related to the topic being discussed (or diversions from that topic) then you can pretty much say whatever you want. We still ask that you don't use negative and discriminitory language but you can express any personal opinion you have about anything. So if you feel that homosexual people should all be burnt alive such an opinion will not be edited.
Basically the view was put forward that the "America is the bestest country in the world" topic and related topics are racist towards Americans and that if were to edit racist posts about other races we should show some consistancy regarding that topic. However as I've mentioned - if you wish to express a racist opinion about Americans, Arabs, Turks, Australians, Canadians, Tasmanians, Germans or any other group of people you are allowed to do so in the discussion topic (so long as you are discussing the issue). However you are not allowed to do so in any other forum. As you can see from reading this topic - these rules have existed for a long time now so if choose not to read the forum rules, that's really your problem. Discrimintory posts in other forums will not be tolerated.
