Janis's blog - (un)retired from footbag
played at st Kilda festival today with Leon, Jamie, Macca, Micheal, Dan and Pat. It was a really good day for promoting, we tried to sell a lot of bags and handed out heaps of flyers. Hopefully some of those people make a return, one guy could hit atw both directions, also a girl learnt atw and says she'll be back.
I guess the next few days will show if the flyers were successful.
Footbag wise I played badly, I've been having a really tough time recently. Only just recovered from a calf injury so I'm totally out of practice.
highlights: datw out > plo > rpt > datw in > plo > rpt
hit some new stuff: stepping same osis both sides
symp flurry (clean? not sure)
stepping same osis was very tough for me, I think my lack of crank really hurts me on that trick.

most definately. you did everything right but your poor ankle just couldn't handle the crank That being said, even bigger props for hitting it BSjanis wrote:stepping same osis was very tough for me, I think my lack of crank really hurts me on that trick.
Returning from injury seemed to be the theme of the day... awesome day though
First solo session in ages, mostly did drills and stuff I'm not consistent at:
50 op clipper marathon style
127 consec toe stall op
toe same dirfter > drifter bsos
drifter rake > hand catch > other drifter rake, woot!
ss butter > pdx mirage > rpt
left : 5 9 7 9 8 7 13
right: 7 12
clipper > osis > spinning clipper , both sides woot!
osis freeze clipper bsos
far osis freeze both sides
I think these were a bit rough on my left ankle, which was feeling sore before the session. I'm going to give zooming a miss for a few sessions.
left clipper set whirling dragon osis, new move, first try.
butterfly > near mirage > legover > rpt
7, 11, 21
(venting frustration)
To be honest the "rate my crank" threads really annoy the shit out of me, sure I have terrible crank and I admit that there is a certain element of bitterness. But there is no skill in having great crank, sure hitting moves with good crank is props worthy, but just having crank alone doesn't impress me.

Yeh the rate my crank topics are ridiculous, because the people making these topic have VERY OBVIOUSLY BETTER- THAN -GOOD CRANK. Perhaps the title should be more like 'Blow smoke up my arse'.

omg sooo much agreement, yeah you know how it is. These people will never know how much harder it is playing with shitty crank.King Monkey wrote:Yeh the rate my crank topics are ridiculous, because the people making these topic have VERY OBVIOUSLY BETTER- THAN -GOOD CRANK. Haha...Janis, you'll never guess what just happened to me today. I was playing poker on Facebook today, and some random guy asks, "Chrissy, are you playing footbag in your picture?" And I told him yes, thinking maybe he was just talking about hacky sack but has heard of footbag. He mentioned playing with some friends, and I asked for their names. He was like, "Well, I live in Australia..." I got him to say a few names, and you came up! It's a small world. I never would have expected anyone familiar with footbag to randomly play poker with me online. His name is Dan Nathrakh.

Day 1 of O-Week Promotions:
Awesome day for the Melbourne University footbag club, despite shitty weather and a smaller than expected turnout to the clubs and societies day, we signed up 75 new members. Also we are going to be ordering in another 3 pairs of lavers for club members in the next few days. The club is starting to gather some momentum now, so it should be a good year for things to happen.
we had a few circles going throughout the day and it looks like there is some talent out there.
we organised to give out free icy poles, but it was really cold in the morning so that didn't go as well as last year when it was extremely hot. Even so in the afternoon when it was a bit warmer there was some interest.
The free footbag with every membership was a real hit, also it will mean that there will always be a bag at the weekly kicks.
Over the course of the day 6 people helped out at the table, it made a huge difference, thanks to everyone who helped out
photos will be posted later.

Aussie Nationals in a few days, woot!
Going to get epic amounts of footage.
my knee is sore, damn it
Still it's a bit better than Friday when I saw the physio.
On the positive side I'll be able to film more stuff.
Watching Jorden's 2bag juggling video reminded me of when I used to do it heaps, I thought of a totally new 2 bag juggling concept that nobody has done before. I'll try to film it when my knee recovers.
The uni club is going well, I think we are up to about 130 members now and we have a regular group that kicks. Going to be giving club members chocolate easter eggs tomorrow, should be fun Also finally got a chance to order in some more lavers, world footbag was down for a few days but it is back up now.

back from nationals now.
was a good event, thanks to all the organisers and thanks to Dan Boyle for being awesome,
My right knee was pretty fucked up leading into the weekend and it didn't really get better, I was happy to be able to do a routine at all even though it wasn't great.
The Dan's killed their routines, very deserving 1st and 2nd place. Dan Boyle had improved massively over last year and had a great routine, big props to him.
Got the routines on camera, I'll try to post them up soonish.
tricks hunted: stepping same whirl, ss symp dlo both sides.

1: I'm very Aussie, ie. I can only write in English fluently, my Italian is rusty as all crap, I don't speak/read/write any other languages.NuR wrote:I got two questions for you dude : can you talk/read/write greek ?, and,

2: The thing about drifter rake that helped me was to rotate more than for a drifter, like really rotate your hips and use the momentum of the dexing leg to help with the rotation.
something I have been working on for ages (I'm easily into the 100's of hours now):

The programming is almost complete and it has a bit of content now, but needs more.
