I don't think he came, I haven't seen him.

Today (Tuesday) was the best day yet. Perfect weather, good people, spent some time at the pool... C-fan finally showed up, and so did Vasek. I got a bunch more action shots (circles+doubles) , and a Landes slow motion video hitting the combo that got him 3rd place. I'm going to see a show in an hour so I can't upload them now, but hopefully later on.

The weather was splendid today - you can see that the Berlin Crew is very relieved about that and the players too of course! Speaking of: The organization is perfect! ( as expected) All events are almost on time, no delays, everything is covered from fresh fruits to water to showers, the breakfast and lunch are top notch for meatfans and vegetarians ;) Only problem till now maybe is not enough toilets - but its really just a small point.

Still a lot of people arriving - Vasek, Honza (? haven´t seen im yet but he should be here), Swiss Miss Tina, Ken and a lot more. The czech guys even brought a 50 liter barrel of beer from home :D

Sergey Kozlov is not here, I think he wasnt even registered.

A lot of circle qualification going on today - so many people! Top level circles and good players out already because the level is so high and only one person goes to the next round.

Milan, Honza, Vasek, Serge Kaldany didnt had to qualify because they are the former and reigning world and european champions!

Btw: Matt Cross did an great job as an MC the whole time! It was greatly appreciated Mistrer Cross - thank you ;)

Wiktor won 2 Squares finale against Szymon! Wasn´t there but I heard it was an intense game. 2 Squares is much more competitive and serious than 4 squares - it´s getting pretty popular on the old continent.

Only other thing freestyle wise was Doubles Qualifications where Ales made an comeback with Dan Ednie . No big suprises there.

Partywise a finnish hand crafted bottle of chili vodka was the highlight yesterday. Almost everybody had a try and probably nobody wants to drink this brewage from hell in his life ever again (except of Anaconda who enjoyed it multiple times).

good night from berlin

I'm sure most of you got it, but
Steve Goldberg wrote:Hi, folks,

I'm writing this e-mail on behalf of the organizers of this year's IFPA World Footbag Championships in Berlin.

For those of you who can't be at Worlds this year, I wanted to give you a quick update on how things are going, and also to let you know about a special plan for this Saturday's finals.

First, the update:

The 2009 IFPA World Footbag Championships in Berlin kicked off this past Sunday night with an opening ceremony and player party, with competition beginning in earnest on Monday morning, July 20.

Preliminary rounds continue today with semi-finals and finals starting tomorrow and running through Saturday evening, local time. We have had a very large turn-out for this year's event -- we'll publish all the statistics later, but just as one case in point, we had approximately 72 players register for Open Singles Freestyle, which translates to a record 12 pools of players in today's qualification round (whew!).

As for the venues -- freestyle and net are at one integrated site, with amazing food (catered breakfast and lunch included for players/guests!), excellent playing surfaces (tennis court for freestyle, astro-turf for net, and an awesome and very large indoor gym just in case of rain -- all right next to each other within seconds of bathrooms, excellent water, and other food/drink options).

The level of play this year is astounding, with net players and freestylers showing the very top level of competition in the sport's history this year. Hopefully you'll be able to see for yourself in just a few days (read below).

As for the organization, the crew here is doing a great job keeping the event running on schedule, providing perks and an awesome environment for the players, and showing the best face of footbag to Berlin and to the world.

Now, for the special plan for Saturday:

For this Saturday's finals show, there will be a LIVE VIDEO STREAM on the internet, so all of you can watch the finals show live!

The show is scheduled to start July 25, 18:00 CEST -- that's Central European "Summer" Time.

To view the show live, just go to http://www.footbag.org/worlds2009 this Saturday at 18:00 CEST, to see the live video stream.

For those of you who aren't so familiar with time zone math :-), I've compiled a short list of some other time zones that correspond to this time, so you can hopefully work out the proper time from wherever you live*:

California: July 25, 9:00 a.m. (PDT)
New York: July 25, 12:00 noon (EDT)
London: July 25, 17:00 (BST)
Berlin: July 25, 18:00 (CEST)
Helsinki: July 25, 19:00 (EEST)
Moscow: July 25, 20:00 (MSD)
Perth: July 26, 00:00 midnight (Aus. WST)
Tokyo: July 26, 01:00 a.m. (JST)
Sydney: July 26, 02:00 a.m. (Aus. EST)
Auckland: July 26, 04:00 a.m. (NZST)

*Note: I just did these myself, so I may have made an error. Please don't miss this show, so please make sure you find out what time 18:00 CEST translates to in your time zone!

Again, point your web browser at the time of the show above (based on your time zone) to:
http://www.footbag.org/worlds2009

Thanks, and I hope everyone can "tune in" this Saturday to see the finals show (and I especially hope the technology doesn't fail us!).

Steve

P.S. Please don't ask me for help with watching the live show, or to report problems. For one thing, I won't be online during the show. For another, I'm really not involved with the live broadcast. If it works, great. If not, please accept the local team's apologies -- but rest assured that all the relevant videos and results will be online as soon as feasible after the event concludes this weekend. Thanks!
Big thanks to everyone involved in this.

Open Qualifications just ended now. So many pools!

First Highlight was Ken Somolinos going dropless in the first pool! Congratulations Buddy!

Pool of Death was exiting with Tuomas Risaloo (2 drops), Tuukka Antikainen (2 drops), Nick Landes (2drops) and Juho Marjo (3 drops - unluckily 2 on the last trick)

Dropless Routines also from Marcin Bujko, Honza Weber and Damian Gielnicki. Honza is in top shape and Damian played such an artistically beautifull routine that the crowd watched in silent awe!

Vasek in the last pool had 3 drops but his technical was insane! Song was new too I think. Motions, Shaft, Superfly, Spinning Superfly - Routine ended on Montage & Double Spinning Whirl.

---

yesterday the party was at the yam which offered a basketball court with light for night shred.

Anssi and Nick ripped it up in an 2 man circle with a lot of Kickers watching. Just saw the end but it seems that it was epic - Nick did a lot of Dragon stuff. Only thing I saw was Nick doing fairy ripstein ending on dragon.

video contest, Jere did a crazy good video, you will see it soon I guess.

IMO the best footbag short video out there (about 5 minutes)

the videos where really nice this year, 9 in total!

Here is the link to the video Flavio and I have done, I don't know how it ranked, but it is defenetly not in top 3 :(

http://vimeo.com/5023915

Otherwise on a personal acheivement I hit collossus today and I feel great :D

This is the best managed worlds I ever attended. And it's my 5th in a row.

Berlin crew is the best!

Video Contest was a pleasure to watch, a cinema filled with footbaggers watching footbag videos - priceless. For example the players in the videos got props for good runs in form of roaring applause! Jeres Video was truly amazing but the whole night and all the videos were entertaining.

----

I took a picture of the routines qualifications results

Image

and one of the upcoming circle contest semis

Image

Both semis look like a lot of exiting times..

I have to mention that I forgot Bartek Bubula who also went dropless in the qualifications and Karolina from Slupsk who was the only woman to go dropless in qualifications (women had a great turnout of competitors too with 3 pools)

Don´t know if I can ontinue this updates because my power supply for the laptop is broken :( Hope that other people will keep you up to date in that case!

-me and twister having a little kick to start the day yesterday! he still plays with completely unmodified toes! dropless routine yesterday, off the hook. He's so nice as well - I'd never really talked to him before, except on youtube.

having a ball! today marks the start of the second half of the week! still a lot of worlds to go. I am MCing circle finals today! Ttuukkaa has been going around telling everyone Tom Mosher misses them. The weather is just about perfect, but with little spits of rain sometimes that force us to compete indoors. I taught Danny Calladine to stitch a 32 yesterday, and I hope I can find another student today.

I've only filmed a little bit. I'll try and do more today.

Circle Contest was hardcore - Vasek had one run with 67 contacts or something. Still it seems he was holding a little bit back for finals. Honza is in super form - so is Milan Benda. Serge also showed why he is the circle world champ. It seems that all the top seeds gonna make finals

- juho marjo had a very good variety round
- nick landes could make it too
- phil morrison was fighting hard with milan
. damian had vasek in his pool.. and olaf who had very good density round :D

If I remember correclty, circle finals are :
Serge Kaldany, Milan Benda, Vasek Klouda and Damian Gielnicki

Damian beat the top seed of his pool (Honza)

I may be wrong on this last one, but pretty confident on other 3.

Yeah sorry for the mistake and Anssi told me the moves I mentioned from vaseks routine were not all correct - so pardon me he is just too fast ;)

Circle Competition ended right now.

Vaseks first run had around 165 Contacts!! That was just incredible. Milan was also shredding hard - but Vasek dominated imo.

--
Tina rocked women circle finals
--
Milan went dropless in semis, vasek too. Most other strong players around 1-3 drops.

--
Wiktor & Gosia won Mixed Doubles
Martin Sladek & Thomas Tucek won Open Doubles
Kryzstof Maler (sry for the spelling) from cz won Intermediate

--
Milan won Shred 30 with a score around 260, sorry cant remember the exact score. 32 contacts - 32 uniques
