London Jam - March 25 - 27

Post by matt_bailey » 19 Dec 2010 09:22

Hey everyone,

After testing the water I'd like to host a small informal jam in London on the weekend of 26th and 27th March, with some opening shred or drinks on the Friday night (25th)

Let me know if you are interested in coming on these dates or even better can confirm your attendance!

I look forward to bringing some players into the UK and getting to hang out with you hacksters some more

For those of you who I dont have on facebook, here is the event page!

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=138353106225287

EDIT:

Here is a provisional timetable I am suggesting:

Friday - PM - Meet up

Saturday - AM - Indoor shred session 2 - 3 hours
- PM - Outdoor casual shred @ Southbank (Weather Permitting)
- Club/Bar/Music Venue

Sunday - AM - Indoor shred session 2 - 3 Hours
- PM - Outdoor casual shred @ Hyde Park (Weather Permitting)
- Closing Club/Bar/Music Venue

In case of rain I have a couple of covered spots in mind for the outdoor play

It costs £6.50 for an all-day underground pass which would give everyone a lot more flexibility for playing spots and sights on the way.

I am looking at hostels in Islington, within walking distance of King's Cross/St. Pancras where I can book a large room for everyone.

I hope to get a good balance of hard and casual shred and seeing some of the city! I look forward to seeing you all there!

Matt

If its gonna be during Easter (21.4.-25.4.) which is actually late April, then I'm interested in this jam :) Earlier dates won't probably work for me.

i would very much love to come to this, but for me the only dates that work would be late march/very early april. have to be back for an uni exam on april 6th.

edit:
how about the weekend of march 26th/27th? flights are incredibly cheap the week before ;)

I'm very interested in spending some time in London in late March. Otherwise, I'm only slightly interested in visiting in April or some other time.

wow thank you for all the responses

So I think I will definitely start to organise something.

I have only had very informal hosting experience once this summer and so I would probably pitch this at a similar level.

I will talk to my brother who works at a gym about hiring an indoor venue tomorrow and I imagine getting one or two dorm rooms in a hostel would be a good way of accommodating people

As it seems that late March is generally a better time I will check out these dates first. I guess a 3 day weekend will be a suitable time frame

Like I said, I am not experienced with this, and if anyone has any input for how they would like the jam to be run or imagine a jam working well please dont hesitate to comment

Be in touch,

Matt

hey matt,

don't stress yourself out over the organization (not saying that it looks like you were, though ;).

find a place to stay and a place to play, and anything else will be fine. and yeah, i'd still prefer last weekend of march. do you think you could sort things out within the next week? i'm a little afraid flight rates might go up soon, if they haven't already.

looking forward to this,

cheers!

OK well if flights are cheap, and people in this thread are generally more available then lets just set the dates to 26th/27th, with maybe some casual shred somewhere on the friday night (25th)!

I'll update post, start compiling a list of people and can start checking out hostels/gyms with those dates

I look forward to making this happen!

Hey keep updating on this, as I have some good friends in London I was planning on visiting around this time. It would be great to have it happen at the same time as a jam. :)

Okay, I'm in! Tickets bought. Confirming my attendance.

I'll arrive one day early, and I'll be staying for over a week. There are many other things that I'd like to see in London besides my feet.

nice jon, that's great to hear!

i'm just about to buy tickets, but can't really figure out whether to fly into Stansted, Luton or Gatwick airport. they are all somewhat far from the city. does anybody happen to know which airport is the cheapest to get into the city from?

Thats great Jon! Very exciting.

Matthias Gatwick looks the cheapest from a quick search on the national rail website although there may be buses or cheap airport transfers

if i have a moment ill have a look at that too

National Express run coaches regularly from Gatwick to London Victoria Coach Station and at first glance the prices look dirt cheap (£7, or just over 8 Euros) Ill do some more digging myself when i get a chance.
