Santa Cruz Invitational (AKA Emily's Birthday Pajammy Jam)

Post by Moxie » 29 Jan 2006 22:42

(EVERYONE IS INVITED!)

This is the event you've been waiting for...
The First Annual Santa Cruz Invitational, run by two of your favorite Modified personalities and overall attractive people (Moxie and Senor Grommet), and an up-and-comer, who is also more attractive than your average footbag player (FunkLovesFootbag). The Santa Cruz Invitational (AKA Emily's Birthday Pajammy Jam) will be held on June 10th and 11th, 2006, the weekend after my birthday. We will be celebrating that weekend so bring your presence, jammys, party hats, and Lavers. We are expecting players from all over California and hopefully from several surrounding states. Several high level players will be present including Jeremy Mirken, Lon Smith, Big Add Chad, Nick Landes and others.

Our venue is the Aptos Academy which has a thinly carpeted gym floor and a stage. The weather will be nice enough for us to kick outside as well. The high in that part of June is usually about 72F and the low is about 50F. So bring warm and cool weather clothing.

Flights from Austin to San Jose are cheap right now! My girlfriend and I are thinking about getting there a few days early and making a vacation out of this. I guess Santa Cruz doesn't have an airport. Are there cheap buses/shuttles that go from San Jose to Santa Cruz?

Also, we want to take surf lessons. It seems like there are a jillion places that offer surf lessons... any suggestions on which one is good? I was there once about 7 years ago with my family, I saw the boardwalk, but I remember there was a lot more there that we wanted to but didn't have time. What else is fun in SC?

uhhh the airporter is one way that i know of, its $40 from san jose airport to santa cruz. im positive there are cheaper ways to get here using the buses, but not sure on the details. downtown and the boardwalk are the big attractions, there's also the mystery spot... not sure what else. lots of theatres, the forests...Not sure on surf lessons.

Ben: It's great to hear that you and your lady are going to try to make it. :-) This is the perfect place for vacationing. Santa Cruz doesn't have an airport but you can fly into San Jose (SJC). Dat will bring people from SJC and I'll make one to a few trips to get people too. It's 45 min from Santa Cruz. We'll just figure out when the best times will be to make airport pick ups. Fletch was right about the Airporter. Besides getting a ride from someone or renting a car, it is the easiest way to get here. But the bus system works well and we'll find out the exact routes and post them in case people will need that.

There are a ton of surf lesson places, so I will get some numbers for you from some local surfers. There are a ton of beautiful/fun spots here; we're going to work on making a list so people can find out about a bunch of options while they're in town. How old are you both?

If this is an Invitational, does that mean you have to be invited?

everyone in AZ

Post by Senor Grommet » 06 Feb 2006 14:46

There's no excuse for not showing up to this event. I expect to see eveeryone in AZ at this jam (all 2-5 of you  ), everyone from Oregon (only a 6-8 hr drive), hopefully more than 1 Texan, and several Chicagoans. Some Canadians would be nice :) , maybe some Washingtonians, some Coloradoans (S.B. is very close to S.C.), and every California shredder I know.
