I figure it's about time to start a footblog. My name's Dave Morawski and I'm from Redondo Beach, California. I've been seriously shredding since about early to mid August after being inspired upon meeting some amazing players in Europe. Here's what I can do as of now (A much shorter list than what I can't do):

-Legovers
-ATWs (Both In-Out/Out-In..but my left side is very weak)
-Pickups (Pretty weak..but I hear there isn't much of a point to them)
-Illusion (Right set only)
-Pixie toe delay (Right set only)

See? Pretty short list.

With that in mind, let the pilgrimage continue...

Although I just started this thing I'd like to keep the posts separate from the introduction.

I had a session tonight in the parking structure in Hermosa Beach with "Big Add" Chad Devlahovich, Mark Chafe, and Brett Dierker. I drilled my usual set, consisting of mirage-legover BSOS. Also drilled my strong-side (right) illusion and cleaned it up a bit. Definitely less the, more in the down time position, and around the calf (At its cleanest). Thanks to Jeremy Mirken I'm starting to dex my ATWs around the calf a little more, which is helping my pixie toe delay.

Best run of the night was the usual mirage-legover BSOS, then back to a right set mirage with a pickup thrown in at the end.

With some pointers from Chad I managed to hit a symposium mirage three separate times! Towards the end of the session, Chad was just playing around trying to play with 4+ bags at the same time (Really awesome and hilarious, by the way), and I started trying symp. mirages. Then, out of nowhere, I hit it. Afterwards I was able to pull it off a few more times, sporadically. It felt damn good :)

An awesome session had by all...but in hindsight: I need to school my clippers. Damn.

both sides dude..i wud honestly just like stop using ur strong leg for like illusion and wat not and just practice left leg..and dont stop until u can land it as good or better (if possible!) as ur strong side illusion is right now..i am also a begginer and working bothsides is real important wen ur schooling the 'basics'..of course u no this im just reminding u..like for example i can do strongside atw everytime and then i try flipside atw and land maybe 2 outa 5 or so..lol so for the past few days ive just been using my left foot for every trick..its boring and really hard and frustrating but i no it will help me out alot more later on wen my strings get better..good going on the symp  :) . mirage keep shredding!

Yeah, I've definitely been told BSOS more times than I can count, but a reminder is good.....considering I haven't been working both sides as much as I should be.

Just had a solo session on my balcony. I was strictly drilling my flipside. Namely, I was drilling mirages, ATWs, and mainly illusions. I hit my flipside illusion several times, which was a first.

Solo sessions just wear me out, but it's the best time to school weak stuff. No one wants to have 1 contact runs in a circle.

Hit a half-ass symposium mirage at the end of the session; I want to hold off on schooling that because I really need to work on more basic moves.

I still need to school my clippers.

It's too hot to footbag.

Had a session with Mark early afternoon, today. We pretty much just schooled clippers. Nothing to write home to Mom about, but we'll have them soon enough. It seems to me that clippers are like 75% timing.. My legs get tired from all that jumping up and down...crazy freestyle.

Haven't hit symposium mirage flipside yet, but I can't say I've tried it. Gotta SCHOOL my other 2 add moves way more until I start with all that other jive.

Hoping to add more to this later after a night session.

NRFC, signing out.

you're right.. the key to clippers is the timing.. you just have to concentrate on being slower and also torque your ankle flat as possible each time.

Seshed with Mark and Brett tonight. Chris joined us for about 15 minutes before he copped out.

The three of us were mostly schooling clippers. Mark is making a lot of progress and even hit a clipper>legover. Fat props. Brett is progressing quite well, too.

Myself, on the other hand, had a shitty session. I really couldn't hit anything tonight. It was damn frustrating. Oh well, not much I can do but shred harder tomorrow.

I didn't think there was much of a point to pickups either until I started learning whirls.

Although you might not understand completely why a particular trick (that you might not like to do) is of any value, just remember that the Bigger tricks are comprised of groups of smaller tricks.

So do pickups for now, then whirls later :D .

Keep it up!!!

Thanks for the posts. I figure pickups aren't such a bad thing, afterall. Even if they didn't help later on with more advanced tricks...my set isn't too big. I need all the tricks I can get up my sleeve.

Had a short session with Brett today after my first class. It was way better than last night's. I was able to hit more stuff, but was mainly working on my clippers. They're coming along, but I need to school them much much more. Haven't even really honestly tried flipside, yet.

Not much else to say...hoping Big Add Chad will be down to shred with us tomorrow night.

Peace!

Dude, Davey please dont tell me you havent even tried flipside clipper yet..thats not good I say you should practice both sides equally or maybe even practice your worst side a lil more..trust me..even if your flipside clippers are like completley off..and are no fun..still practice them and drill them because like you know..they will help you out soo much in the long run..im still schooling flipside clipper..my strongside is fine because i neglected flipside..but luckily im still beggining so i can recover by drilling flipside alot more than strongside in every session..hope this helps you !

Suh-suh-suh-sessioned with Mark tonight. It was a lot of fun, mainly because I was hitting much more consistently than the other night. The soundtrack was going to be Eyedea & Abilities and RJD2, but Mark's blaster doesn't work with MP3 CDs. We made due with Jack Johnson, followed by Metallica.

I worked on my illusion flipside, and hit it cleanly several times. Happy about it's consistency, as it is steadily increasing. While I was schooling my clipper, I started exaggerating the bend my support leg upon impact, and it helped my delay quite a bit. Now I just need to get the positioning of my leg to stop conflicting with my support leg (They hit each other quite a bit), and straighten out my foot. It's funny..whenever I ball my toes up to make a flatter surface with my foot, I end up making a fist with my hand. The brain is strange.

Worked on clipper flipside a little bit..not as much as I should have, but I'm not ready to do it cause I can't really hit a clipper 2/15 times consistently on my strong side.

Until tomorrow...life burns faster, obey your master (Repeat 3x).

as soon as you hit a trick once strongside you should try and hit it flip. drill it for 40 minutes if you have to.

Just got back from a good solo session at Heights Tennis Courts in Manhattan.

I was primarily schooling nothing but flipside. Flipside mirages improved a lot,
but my illusions still aren't very consistent. Couldn't hit a flipside clipper for ass (I don't even know what that means..but I couldn't hit it).

I was working on stalling inside delays, bringing them down to the ground, then cross body to a clipper position...this drill inspired me try some hop-overs (I think that's what they're called)..heh, pretty fun little trick, but I couldn't really hit it.

Played for about an hour before my stomach started eating itself. I'm famished. Food time.

Having a second session in about an hour when Brett gets off work.

---

Went to the tennis courts at Anderson Park tonight and had a second session, this time with Brett. Continued schooling mostly flipside tricks..

I hit:

Mirage > Illusion (Strongside only)
Legover > Mirage BSOS
Schooled symposium mirage a little bit..but couldn't manage to hit it flipside.

Not much to say. Good session.

Good session with Mark tonight at his place place.

My clippers (strong) got much better towards the middle of the session..then they fell off towards the end. Flipside clippers are actually starting to form now.."ugly as sin," but I hit a few.

Managed to hit strongside clipper>mirage..that was sweet. :)

Hit one butterfly..another pleasant surprise. Not ready to pursue those yet, so much other basic stuff needs work.

Schooled my flipside illusion a little bit more. I can hit it every now and then..."every now and then" being the key phrase. Consistency = shit.

Goals:
Fatten up:
Clipper [BS]
Illusion [Flipside]
ATWs [Flipside..holy shit, that needs work]
Mirage [Flipside..Just can't seem to get them as consistent as I want them to be]

Hit (Then solidify at a later date):
Symposium mirage [Flipside]

I plan on major progress in a weeks time.

Just tore up some pavement with Mark in the shredport.

Of the goals I mentioned in the previous post, I improved my flipside illusions, clippers, and flipside ATWs. Productive session..I was hitting those tricks a lot more than I normally do.

Drills are about as interesting to read about as they are to write about, so I think I'll go to sleep now.

Until tomorrow.

Had a short session in Hermosa with Brett tonight. I hit farside butterfly several times..10x as easy as SS. Hit a couple good flipside clippers..much schooling to do on that front.

Best run: Mirage>legover BS>mirage>illusion>legover...or something like that. It was noticeably longer than most my runs, and included a strongside illusion.

Worked ATWs a little bit..they're improving, slowly but surely. The two components of that trick that I trip up on are:
  • Separating the set from the dex
Not setting it straight up..causing the move to be sloppy (Either too close or too far from my body)
Like I said, short session. Didn't have too much time to work on anything much. Still had a lot of fun though.

Yey, it's Veteran's Day tomorrow = no school. Fat multiple sessions are in store.

NRFC: Mount up.
