Twenty-year old shredders unite!

Post by Drew » 07 Feb 2008 19:50

Every other age group is being covered but ours right now, so I figured we should rep' too. Might as well cover everyone 20 to 28/30, whatever the other group begins with! We're not too old, and not too young, just right!

I'm at the bottom of the group, being 20 years old. I turn 21 in less than 7 months though :D

Been shredding for almost 1.5 years, going to the next available East coast tourney, which'll be my first, and plan on going to Worlds in Prague. Recently sprained my ankle so I've been on the bench this week, but I'll soon be back to shredding four days a week

21!

Interesting enough, that's how many minutes I had to play to make this post.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

23, started kicking sometime in '05, concentrating on perfecting my eye-foot coordination for both sides down to a tee so that I can reach guiltless comfortably.

My plans in going to Prague for Worlds have been destroyed, since I plan to do whatever I can to graduate out of college by the end of this year. Taking a semester in the summer seems inevitable, imo, but it's necessary and important to me.

I'll reserve my 20+ minutes of schooling for tomorrow; it's almost 3 am here in the East Coast, and I've spent this time catching up on my readings for class.

I'll be 20 in a mo. Been shredding for about a year and a half. Need to play more often, but school has had my nose in the books for all of time. ugh.

just turned 20 last month WOOO go us?
Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

Yeah it seems like people think that you have to be a teenager to play this sport. Like your body won't hold up if you're not. There's a lot of great players in their 20s that just get better and better. I'm 22 and feel like I'm getting better still. I think Jorden and Dave are 20 now. Who knows how good they'll get. Other players that come to mind: Scott Bevier, Lon Smith, Ken Somolinos. I think as long as you don't get seriously injured you can keep progressing.

I'll be turning 26 in two weeks. Started late compared to the rest of you, been playing for about a year, give or take, and managing to squeeze in 4 session + 1 hour footbag class to school children every week between a full time job (9-10 hours a day), full time girlfriend and a whole bunch of other hobbies I've collected through the years. So young people, you're not allowed to complain  There's always time for what's important if you keep your priorities straight.

It's funny, in Aikido (a Japanese martial art I've been practicing for 3.5 years), I'm the youngest person by a margin of about 10 years, and here I feel like I should be retiring soon.

Shredding can be tough on the body, but compared with other sports I've done, the injury risk can be kept pretty low, which means I can always slow down and keep shredding for many years to come, I'm not worried.

And finally, worlds is on my agenda as well. See you there!

Yeah, I've realized that you just have to make the time and take precaution on how you're playing. If you're playing uncomfortably, tired or feeling restless during a session, injury is imminent. Training well and playing in moderation can be a good thing, but it's important to put in time to actually play the sport and not brag about it.
