windows to apple transition

Post by quadgun » 28 May 2006 11:50

So I've been wanting a laptop for a while now, and i have recently started looking around for some

a laptop that caught my eye was the new MacBook

now my question is
whats the transition from windows to mac like?
my whole world has been windows ... i feel that if i get a mac tis gonna be like starting all over again
but one of my friends told me that apple has great tech-support, so if i ever run into a problem ill be helped right away

any advice would be great
i cant wait to read the "stick with windows" or "fuck mac, go linux" posts

I've never used a mac, but I watch TechTV all the time . . .

It seems like the general agreement is that if you know what you're doing on Window's it should be a pretty easy transition, as long as you're good at fiddling around to figure things out.

I'd say it'd take a while to get used to it... *shrugs*

honestly its not that bag, i used to use a mac to program on and i had windows at home, the transition is pretty smooth, just takes maybe a week to pick up on a few things
Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

It took me a couple days, it's not bad at all. And it's so much better.

Only took me a few minutes - everything on Mac is so much easier and stress-free!

yeah, anything from apple should get a protection thingamajig.

that way, if you drop your laptop (or ipod, etc.) you can get it replaced for next to nothing. if its a hardware fuckup, theyll fix it for free.

The new MacBooks are sick!!! If anyone watched the latest vid of Dylan, that video quality is what those comps are capable of. :D I want one!

As far as the actual topic of this thread goes... I find that a lot of skills between Mac and Windows are pretty interchangable, it shouldn't take more than a short while to make the transition.

The new MacBooks come with a built-in camera. The video was taken with that camera (and most likely edited on the same comp, although that video was obviously not a demonstration of editting capabilities :) ).

I just have to say that virtual pc is a piece of crap. Microsoft makes bulky shitty software. Mac has an assortment of freeware that is clutter-free and runs smoothly and efficiently.

For graphics work, nothing compares to a mac.

its not just that microsoft makes crappy software, its the fact that they give out licencing like its nothing, so you get tons of crap from EVERYWHERE.
Mac doesnt let crappy programers make mac software.
Plain, with everything.

imo, the software produced by both Apple and Windows sucks pretty terribly. Excessive bells and whistles at the expense of minimalism and functionality, but that's just my thing. I prefer open source software. I'd be writing this post from a Linux distro if my 300-400 highly detailed playlists in iTunes weren't chaining me down. :(
