Post by bigdirtyfoot » 07 Jun 2005 20:26

Oh my god, great session.

Highlights:

Butterfly BSOS RIGHT AFTER Butterfly B2B (Challenge)
Mirage>Illusion>Legover (Rpt.) (Challenge)
Set Flipside Mirage Record at 5
Ducking Clipper Both Sides (Next time BSOS hopefully!)

So tonight I started with a warmup of kicks and toe stalls and then a few inside stalls. I decided to use my mini abshire for warm up, since I don't use it much and I love that bag and I want to break it in more since I never really did. So then I warmed up trying some butterflies and I hit one of my challenges, Butterfly>Butterfly. That was cool. It definitely needs some work, but I'm glad I hit it. I should also mention that this was the first time shredding after doing the brocka mod and some toe mods (just cutting the eyelets off). Like I said, the last time I shredded the eyelet cut into my fucking foot and I'm still healing that up, but it's not cutting me anymore so no more bloody socks!

Anyways so then I decided I wanted to try another challenge, Mirage>Illusion>Legover (Rpt.). I had to hit illusion first though, as I'd never really hit it (so I guess you can say I hit it BSOS!). Anyways after I got that I kept trying the combo. I figured out that if I started on my right toe, that was my goodside. So I would try the link starting on that toe one time, and then I'd do three on the other. I was SOOOO frustrated with my flipside illusion. It wasn't coming together very well. And fatigue was setting in. (I took a few 5 minute breaks and put the fan up to me and drank water)

I decided that since I was getting tired I'd try some other stuff. I hit Ducking Clipper both sides, and I footed BSOS but that doesn't count. I will get it soon. By this time, my left leg around my thigh is DYING and I'm just pushing myself to keep going. Then I try whirls. Lemme preface that by saying that whirl is one of my DREAM MOVES (the other is torque) and I've never ever even come close to hitting one. But tonight I came REALLY close to whirl. I would try one time goodside and three flipside, but flipside is just so weak. On my goodside I ALMOST hit it though, which felt AWESOME.

Well anyways so it gets to be about 11:40 PM and I tell my friend Annie online (during a break) that if I don't hit the challenge combo by midnight, I'm giving up. I have to wake up at 6 AM tomorrow for work and I was already tired today. But I felt like I could hit it. Around 11:50 I started getting really angry with myself. I was just furious and I was screaming "FUCK" and "OMG YOU FUCKING FLIPSIDE" out loud and throwing shit (okay just the bag) against the wall. I was kinda worried that my parents would hear me and come downstairs to my room (which is where I shred, SWEET!) and flip out on me and tell me they thought I was hurt or something (which has happened before, I've got to admit). But they didn't. At midnight I was thinking, okay, I'll give myself 6 tries to hit this shit. By then my left leg is killing me and I'm thinking if I don't stop soon I might pull something. So I start with my right side, preparing to alternate sides for my attempts.

The bag goes up in the air, I do the mirage, the illusion, but drop the legover. FUCK. So then I start on left toe. Mirage, DROP. FUCKING FLIPSIDE ILLUSION. Then I start on my right toe. Mirage, Illusion, Legover, Mirage, Illusion, Legover, Dragonfly! That's right, I sealed it with a fucking dragonfly that I just NAILED across the room. The bag's still over there. I'm exhausted and sitting in a chair across from it, eyeing it. It was just a phat feeling because I worked on it for 3 hours, and I've never done anything like that. At least not physically. So it felt really good.

Immediately I IMed Dave Clavens, Jeremy Mirken, and Matt Cross and told them the good news and they all gave me props and it felt really good and I slowly calmed down (because at first I was so pumped I was literally still angry).

But anyways, I figured this would be a good post to start out the third page. Hope you enjoyed reading. Feel free to leave comments!

Senor Grommet (9:26:35 PM): so, whats up

ASloppyDave (9:26:52 PM): Hey man I just had to tell another footbagger this: I hit a challenge from my challenge page that I worked on for THREE HOURS! I hit another one, but that I hit in my warm up. I'm exhausted and I just had to tell someone.

ASloppyDave (9:26:59 PM): I'm writing about my session in my blog.

Senor Grommet (9:28:38 PM): thats soooo awesome! congrats big time!

ASloppyDave (9:28:44 PM): Thanks!

Senor Grommet (9:28:56 PM): youre welcome! i know exactly how that feels

ASloppyDave (9:29:08 PM): Ha, I bet you do

then a few moments later:

Senor Grommet (9:34:46 PM): please tell me what you hit?

ASloppyDave (9:34:57 PM): Oh
ASloppyDave (9:35:05 PM): Mirage>Illusion>Legover (Rpt.)

Senor Grommet (9:35:23 PM): im really enthusiastic right now, forgive me, its the adrenaline rush i got from setting that record; its been with me for like 1.5 hrs already and im still naturally high!
Senor Grommet (9:35:37 PM): what part of that was the hardest for you?

ASloppyDave (9:35:39 PM): Definitely!
ASloppyDave (9:35:41 PM): That's sweet!
ASloppyDave (9:36:04 PM): Oh god the illusions. I'd never really done illusions, and it was the first time I'd hit flipside illusion, so I hit that for the first time tonight.

Senor Grommet (9:36:16 PM): wow, and in a cool combo too!
Senor Grommet (9:36:23 PM): are you posting in a blog?

ASloppyDave (9:36:25 PM): I'd like to think so, haha.
ASloppyDave (9:36:28 PM): Yeah I just wrote it up.
ASloppyDave (9:36:34 PM): I also posted on my challenges page.
ASloppyDave (9:36:41 PM): Dude when I hit it I was SOOOOO psyched.

Senor Grommet (9:37:01 PM): haha! what did you do? say? yell?
Senor Grommet (9:37:08 PM): ill post in your blog prolly

ASloppyDave (9:37:38 PM): Oh man
ASloppyDave (9:37:41 PM): I sealed it with a dragonfly
ASloppyDave (9:37:47 PM): I nailed the damn footbag across the room
ASloppyDave (9:37:53 PM): And I was like, pissed off

What a conversation! Congrats man! That is possibly the best feeling in the world, when you've conquered your body and mind and have proven to yourself that you CAN do what you doubted you could do.

I just wanted to say that I finally named my footfighter "Cloud Nine." I thought it fit pretty well.

Sweet jam session last night. Going to go every Wednesday night.

I had a dream involving footbaggers. Mainly people from this forum. In the dream, we were tourists somewhere, but we had our own car plus my friends had a car. I bounced between groups, and eventually this psycho dude sent me a text message about footbag and told me that he wanted to play with me and talk about the devil and whatnot. That was odd. He had a mullet. So anyways, I'm hanging out with my friends, we're trying to find a parking space, when the police officer from the 50% Grey video told us that we couldn't park where we were trying to. Talk about weird! Anyways, next thing I know, I'm in a car with Tom Mosher, Matt Cross, Erik Chan, and I think Eric Reile? Anyways, Tom and I were for some reason snowboarding on top of the car. We reached a huge hill where these juvenille delinquints were throwing transparent-blue inflated boats down the hill. But they were huge, like three times as big as the car. They were trying to mess with traffic I guess. So Tom and I decide to ride on these boats, by jumping on them and then letting our momentum use them as ramps to jump up high. The dream ended with a still frame snapshot of Tom jumping from a helicopter (rode the ramp up to it) to our car, and grinding on the car. It was quite an odd dream.

No shred last night, but I worked illusions for about 2 minutes. I am just utterly tired. I think I'll sleep from when I get home until tomorrow morning.

Hahaha, that's funny (the modified dream). I had a modified dream a couple weeks ago, it was pretty funny. I don't remeber it but I when I woke up all I could think was "Whoa" and smile.

I read your whole blog today since the Salvation Army was closed. I thought it was pretty sweet how you were gone for like a year and still came back. That's cool. Well, hopefully see you as soon as you start school again.

Later.

Word, you may see me earlier than that. I'm supposed to get my license next week, and of course I've got buddies in Greenville to visit, and if I'm going all the way out there I might as well visit my friend in Atlantic Beach for a night or two, and if I do that, then you're right smack dab in the middle of it. So that would be phat, and I would like to do that.

In other news: Mosher's made the first flower of my footbag, and I'm excited!

Actually August to March wasn't a year, that's only 7 months... I miscalculated! But I did take a year off after I tore my ACL... so from July 2002 - July 2003. So overall I've been off and on with footbag I guess for about 4 years, but I've only played for real probably a few months? Anyways I'm starting to get more serious about it now.

Good luck with that string Nic!

This has barely anything to do with footbag, but I got my drivers license about 20 minutes ago! And I had to take my test in the rain! Supercool! Now I can drive to events and to shred with my friends. I'm excited.

I want to shred but I can't. Why? Because I just did Hood's Tubing Modification on my CT 520s! Yeah footbag! I will post pics and a review later, right now I am waiting on them to dry. I scheduled a session with Gabe tomorrow, but Luke and Chris can't make it. So it's just going to be me and Gabe. It should be pretty fun.

Well, Gabe bailed on me but with good reason. I just hate it when people change their mind at the last minute. It seems to happen a lot lately. It doesn't really bother me though - Luke and I are supposed to shred sometime this week. And I have even better news! Chris told me he's going to get Lavers soon, and he'll drive to my house and spend a weekend with me and I'll help mod them and we'll shred! That'll be a GREAT next step for him. And I'm still excited that I now have the possibility of driving to Joshua Annis' place and meeting him whenever I get time to. That's cool. I will shred later.

EDIT: Mosher just finished my bag and sent me a pic and it looks great! I can't wait to receive it and give it a go. Thanks Tom!

Ha, thanks again man.

Anyways my shred today was HORRIBLE. I don't know what it was. My little sister (Laura, six years old) played and it ruined my rhythm, but otherwise I was just plain OFF today, dropping on legovers and other easy guilts... so I stopped after an hour. My sister got to where she could do one toe stall on each side, but she gets easily frustrated (Hey it must run in the family) and she started crying when I told her not to put her foot down on the ground after a toe stall. She totally misunderstood me and I didn't know that she had, until she was like bawling and asking me if she had to pick the bag up with one foot in the air. She thought I meant you had to stand on one foot for everything. It was pretty funny but being a good brother, I just told her that she should try to work on her balance, but that she didn't need to have one foot in the air at all times, just not to put her stalling foot down after stalling it.

But what a BAD session. I'm kinda glad Gabe DIDN'T come now. But I'll play sometime before Luke and I get together, hopefully. I think the new mods on my shoes tripped me up. But if anything they should make playing easier in the long run. I need new shoelaces though, the ones I have are SOOOOOO long. I think I might run out and get some.

Later.

Sorry to here you had a bad session but the bad ones make the good ones better so I'm sure you'll still get something out of it!

Jeremy - it was pretty funny, but it's just really frustrating playing with her because she gets so easily frustrated and I don't feel like I should have to calm her down every 10 attempts at a stall, you know? I do my best, but I'd much rather play by myself until she gets a better attitude (this is funny, I bet in about 10 years she'll be on modified reading all my old posts, a great shredita, and she'll be like wtf was he saying this about me for!?). Anyways...

I'm frustrated by the NC scene, or the lack thereof. I have three guys I play with - Luke, Gabe, and Chris. Out of those, Luke bought Lavers two years ago that he grew out of, and he doesn't want anymore, Gabe's been to one jam (WV) with me but doesn't play on his own ever, and Chris has been to GRASS and enjoys playing and is getting Lavers next week, has made a post on modified, but does not really have the drive (it seems, anyways) to progress to become a good shredder. I feel like I suck at motivating people and teaching people, but it seems like I am just SOL as far as having people to play with. Because I haven't played with Luke or Gabe in over a year. Chris seems to be the best candidate now, but I don't know if he loves the sport enough to keep up with it. We're both really busy with music in college and it just makes it so I rarely play footbag. I'd like to CHANGE that this year though. I think I can.

I am, however, excited to meet Joshua, who lives a few hours away from me, but is (hopefully) equally excited to meet me and shred it up! I feel like if I was to help build an NC scene it would be with the help of Joshua. I read people's blogs like Ken, and Zeke and I just don't understand how they motivate so many people to play with them. It's inspiring, but also seems unrealistic with my friendbase. I guess any tips as to how to build a scene would be good for me now. It's kind of hard now that I'm in summer, but I guess when I go back to my college town it'll be better. Who knows?!

I'm so excited that Tom finished my bag. He showed me a picture of it and it looks gorgeous. I think he called it WildBag in his blog a few posts back, and I thought that was funny. I haven't decided what I will name it yet.

I think I will go look at shoelaces. Later.

So I forgot a funny story. Chris and I went to a concert about a month ago and I kept telling him that he should skip work the next day and stay in my town and at my house. I briefly mentioned that I had just hit Magellan for the first time ever that day, and he said that if I could get it in 5 attempts in my jeans with all the crap in my pockets (wallet, cell phone, change, pens, folded pieces of paper, lighter, ipod, etc!) that he'd call in and say his car wouldn't start and that he was stuck in Raleigh. I'm like, "damnit dude I can't hit that trick in these clothes" (I tried once and the cell phone was flopping around while trying to hit the run I was going for). So I gave it one try and missed completely, but on the next try I got it and sealed it and looked at him in utter shock and just bursted out laughing. So I won the bet and he stayed at my house that night and whenever I want him to come play I say "Hey Chris wanna magellan?" and he tells me how he got in trouble that day at work and whatnot. Yeah, funny to me.

Blah this has nothing to do with footbag blah.

So my college sucks. I loved it for the first semester but then people started leaving, as in my friends, and then it just got all complicated and now I'm just totally frustrated and I don't even know if I want to do the same major as I wanted to do before, which was music. It's like, I'll never be as good as I want to be, I hate the environment I'm in, and I can't go out of state because I can't afford it. I wish I could take a year off and make some money and be happier but then I'd have loans to start repaying back right away so I feel like I have to finish. And I think I might look into majoring in journalism, because then maybe I could get out in 4 years instead of 5 to 6, with music, which is bullshit because it's harder and more taxing than most of the majors out there that my other friends are doing. I can't decide if I'm fed up with the music major, or just fed up with my friends saying they're leaving to go to other places, or just fed up. And it's like, totally bothering me.

I haven't played footbag in a while because I've been so fucking tired when I get home that I just go to sleep and that's shitty but I know I'll probably never be good at footbag either.

Ah back to work.
