Stephen Barnes' One-Shot Challenge (post your video)
Philosophical (?) question about the SBOS
I video my footbag sessions whenever I can as part of a commitment to my footbag blog. I operate under a "sort of" version of the One-Shot concept: Whenever a new song starts, I record my first rally of that song, a "one shot" but just for for that song.
But, I end always up recording an average of 10-15 minutes of video per session, usually 1:30-2:00 hours. What I show on my footbag blog (http://h4x354x0r.com) is almost always the single best recorded rally of the session. This is sort of a commitment of mine; a way to have some consistent gage in my performace. It's actually very similar to the SBOS concept, but allows me to inevitably throw out the really, really bad (i.e. just a couple contacts then a drop) rallies.
I'd actually like to start participating in this thread. Even though I'm recording a lot of video per session, is it fair if I designate one specific rally as my SBOS? I've developed a lot of discipline on this matter. It would always be seen as one uninterrupted shot of me announcing, serving, and of course always eventually dropping it.
Is that fair enough?

Re: Stephen Barnes' One-Shot Challenge (post your video)
From the first post of the thread:
1. Play til you feel warmed up and consistent.
2. Announce the one shot to the camera.
3. Do your run. If you drop, too bad, try again next session. If its good, post it here. You only have one chance per session.
Got it?
Here's mine from yesterday:

So you have to announce ahead of your run that you're doing a one-shot. In a nutshell:brian relly wrote: . one shot, no second chances. so its sort of an idea of how consistent you are. you only have one shot to get a good run on video during said session, so you better make it good right? it will happen a lot where you just drop after 3 contacts, or it's like, not a run you'd be okay with showing to people... but you have to! it's like a random sampling of how consistent you'd be during an actual session.
Ok, so i feel like the above was just a bunch of random drunken babbling. let me break it down into steps if you don't quite understand/didnt want to read a bunch of BULLSHIT haha.
1. start playing hacky sack. bring your camera with you.
2. when you start feeling pretty good/warmed up/whatever, turn the camera on. if you think you got a good run in ya, start recording!
3. once you start rolling, you've got ONE shot with the bag. if you fluke and drop, TOO BAD SUCKA. it happens. if it's rad.... COOL!
4. POST IT! regardless of what we will see/make fun of you for
5. it'll be good practice for trying to step up to a pro circle!. yeah! whos with me??

13.8 contacts average per run -- not nearly as poorly as I thought I was doing. I thought I was around 5-ish for sure The third last run got cut off as my still camera has a sensitive knob. That's what she said.

Nice stuff Erik. And great idea with averaging your run length!
